Q:   How can I apply for scholarships offered at IIT Jammu?
A: 

Students meeting the criteria can apply for any of the offered scholarships. The application form for scholarship are available on the official website of the institute. Check below the documents required to apply for IIT Jammu scholarships:

  • Application form (duly filled and signed as per format)
  • Student Bank account details for disbursing the scholarship amount
  • Copies of Aadhaar card of student and parents (both).

Q:   How is IIT Jammu for MTech?
A: 

IIT Jammu has released the placement report for M.Tech in Tunnel Engineering for the year 2023. As per the placement statistics 2023, the highest package offered was INR 5 LPA. As of now, no previous year placement data has been found for Tunnel Engineering. Tunnel Engineering course is part of M.Tech Civil Engineering. However, no placement data for the previous last two years for Tunnel Engineering has been found on the official website. 

Q:   Is it worth to consider IIT Jammu as a good Institute?
A: 

IIT Jammu is a public/government college, which is an institute of national importance that was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India,  in 2016. Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu (IIT Jammu Campus) is one of the most prestigious Engineering institutes in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian Institute of Technology Jammu has been ranked 62nd by the NIRF 2024 under the Engineering category. It is a good college with good placements and good infrastructure. 

Q:   How can I get admission to IIT Jammu?
A: 

Candidates willing to be admitted to any of the programmes offered at IIT Jammu must fill out the application for the prescribed entrance exams, based on which they will be selected for the further IIT Jammu admission process. Students applying through JEE Main must follow the application process mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official website and register for the JEE Main exam.

Step 2: Appear for the JEE Main exam.

Step 3: Then appear for the JEE Advanced. Then take part in the JoSAA counselling.

Step 4: Visit the allotted college and pay the IIT Jammu fees.

Q:   What all documents are required for IIT Jammu admissions?

Other than the General category, the IIT Jammu BTech cutoff 2026 has been released for OBC, SC, ST, EWS and PWD categories under the AI quota. Candidates can refer to the table below to view the first-round closing range for BTech admission across different categories.

Q:   What is the IIT Jammu cutoff for 2026 admission?
A: 

IIT Jammu cutoff 2026 has been announced for round 1 regarding admission to the MSc course and its branches. The cutoff was declared for different All India quota categories. 

For the General AI category, the round 1 cutoff ranged from 621 to 705, wherein M.Sc.in Physics came out as the toughest course for admission. To know the round 1 cutoff for other categories, see the table below.

Q:   What is the eligibility for PhD at IIT Jammu?
A: 

Aspirants must pass Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering /Technology to apply for PhD programme at IIT Jammu.

Candidates who have completed a four-year UG degree with GATE score or Master's degree in Science (with a good academic record) and a valid GATE / UGC-CSIR NET (JRF or LS) /GPAT/ NBHM/ ICMR (JS) / ICAR (JS) or equivalent qualification can also apply.

Q:   Can I apply for BTech with 65% in Class 12 at IIT Jammu?
A: 

No, aspirants must pass Class 12 with a minimum of 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to apply for BTech programme at IIT Jammu. Candidates must also pass JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced to get a seat in the BTech programme.

Q:   How does IIT Jammu CSE cutoff compare with IIT Bhilai and IIT Goa?
A: 

As per the JEE Advanced cutoff 2026 for Round 1, the IIT Jammu CSE cutoff was 6738 for General AI category students. For IIT Goa and IIT Bhilai, the first-round closing ranks for the same specialisations were 6448 and 7981, respectively. So, comparing the cutoff ranks, IIT Jammu has a lenient cutoff as compared to IIT Goa for admission. On the other hand, IIT Goa had the most competitive cutoff for admission to the CSE branch.

IIT Jammu compared with the IIT Mandi has various pros and cons. Both the IITs are the best IITs present in India. IIT Jammu is ranked 56th by NIRF 2025 under the Engineering category, whereas IIT Mandi is ranked 26th by NIRF 2025 under the Engineering category. Both colleges are good and have good placement assistance. Which one is better depends on what the person is looking for in a college/university.

NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2024 exam in two sessions in January and April. The exact date of the exam for both sessions will be announced in the notification. Candidates seeking admission to BTech at IIT Jammu need to appear in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced and further go through JoSAA counselling to secure admission.  For MTech, admission is subject to GATE score followed by COAP counselling. Admission to PhD programme is entrance-based. Applicants need to appear for IIT JAM for admission to MSc programme.

Q:   What has been the trend for cut off in BTech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Jammu?
A: 

The cutoff trend for BTech at IIT Jammu has been increasing in the recent years. In 2022, the closing rank for BTech under General category for all India quota was 13048. In 2023, it increased to 14589. Likewise, the cut off ranks have increased from 4903 to 4906 for OBC, 2398 to 2660 for SC, 1128 to 1212 for ST, 2085 to 2487 for EWS. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, as the demand for Engineering education in India continues to grow. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.

Q:   How much rank is required for IIT Jammu admission to BTech CSE?
A: 

For 2025, IIT Jammu closing cut off was 6651 for General category candidates in All India quota for BTech. in Computer Science and Engineering in IIT Jammu. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 11104 was the closing rank. BTech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

Q:   Do I have to register both on COAP website and IIT Jammu website for M.Tech admission?
A: 

Yes, while applying for the MTech programme at IIT Jammu, a student has to first register compulsorily on COAP portal. It is also mandatory for all candidates with valid GATE score to register at COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) and use the COAP registration number while filling the application form of IIT Jammu. The application fee for M.Tech registration at IIT Jammu portal is INR 200 for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates and INR 300 for other category candidates.

Q:   Can I pursue MTech from IIT Jammu without GATE score?
A: 

No, students seeking admission to IIT Jammu for MTech are required to have a valid score in the GATE exam. Other than this, the institute also conducts a written test and interview for further selection as per the official brochure. To add, students are also required to have passed their BTech degree in relevant branch. This information is as per details released by the institute for admission to its MTech course. However, for any other information around direct admission, candidates are advised to reach out to the admission office of the college for details. 

Q:   What is cutoff of BTech IIT Jammu?
A: 

JoSAA conducts counselling for admission into IIT Jammu. The IIT JAM 2025 cutoff was released as opening and closing ranks across categories under the All India quota. For the General All India quota, the last round of the IIT Jammu M.Sc. cutoff 2025 ranged from 714 to 759, with M.Sc. in Chemistry being the most competitive for admission. In the first round, the closing rank for the same specialisation was 645.
