NIRF 2024 Rankings are out. As per the latest NIRF 2024 rankings, IIT Jammu ranks #62 under the category 'Engineering'.

The GATE 2025 registrations are open for admission to the MTech course and the last registration date without late fee is Sep 26, 2024. Further, the GATE 2025 exam will be conducted on Feb 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025.

The IIT JAM 2025 online registration process for admission to the MSc course is open now, and the last date to apply is Oct 11, 2024. The IIT JAM 2025 exam is scheduled for Feb 2, 2025.

IIT Jammu Highlights 2024

IIT Jammu is one of the most prestigious Engineering institutes in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian Institute of Technology Jammu has been ranked 67th among the top 100 Engineering colleges in India by NIRF 2023.

Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (popularly known as IIT Jammu) is an institute of national importance that was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India in 2016. It was mentored by IIT Delhi in its initial phases. In 2018, IIT Jammu shifted the primary operations from its temporary campus in Paloura to the main campus in Jagti, Nagrota. The State Government of Jammu and Kashmir has provided land of 400 acres for the establishment of the permanent campus. At present, IIT Jammu, through 11 departments, offers PG, UG, PhD, and other courses to students. These courses are provided across Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and various other streams.

The campus of IIT Jammu offers all essential facilities, such as hostel accommodation, cafeteria, open gym, digital classrooms, music room, TT tables, snooker table, dispensary, and a common hall with TV for indoor recreational activities. Besides, the Jammu IIT also has an Innovation and Incubation Centre on the campus that foster the entrepreneurial spirit of the students. It was established under MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC). Q: Can I pursue MTech from IIT Jammu without GATE score?

No, students seeking admission to IIT Jammu for MTech are required to have a valid score in the GATE exam. Other than this, the institute also conducts a written test and interview for further selection as per the official brochure. To add, students are also required to have passed their BTech degree in relevant branch. This information is as per details released by the institute for admission to its MTech course. However, for any other information around direct admission, candidates are advised to reach out to the admission office of the college for details.

Q: Can I get into IIT Jammu without writing JEE Main?

No, candidates seeking admission to BTech at IIT Jammu must have qualified JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced for admission. Final selection of candidates to IIT Jammu BTech programme is based on their JEE Advanced ranks. The counselling process is managed and regulated by JoSAA. Candidates are allotted seats via multiple rounds of JoSAA Counselling. Final seat allotment is based on the college cutoff and candidate's preference of courses and colleges.

Q: How is IIT Jammu for MTech?

IIT Jammu has released the placement report for M.Tech in Tunnel Engineering for the year 2023. As per the placement statistics 2023, the highest package offered was INR 5 LPA. As of now, no previous year placement data has been found for Tunnel Engineering. Tunnel Engineering course is part of M.Tech Civil Engineering. However, no placement data for the previous last two years for Tunnel Engineering has been found on the official website.

IIT Jammu Admission Process and Important Dates 2024

The mode of Indian Institute of Technology Jammu course admissions is online. Admission to various courses is based on entrance exam scores such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and merit. IIT Jammu admission process is mentioned below:

Step 1: IIT Jammu Application Process

Candidates willing to be admitted to any of the programmes offered at IIT Jammu must fill out the application for the prescribed entrance exams based on which they will be selected for further admission process. Given below are the application forms required for different programmes at IIT Jammu:
For admission to the BTech and BSc/ BS programmes, candidates must fill out the application form for JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced exams through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in).
Also, for admission to the MTech programmes, candidates need to appear for the GATE exam by filling out the application form through the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in).
For E-MTech and PhD, students are required to apply via the official website of IIT Jammu.

Step 2: IIT Jammu Selection Criteria and Final Seat Allotment

The students must undergo the course-specific IIT Jammu admissions test, such as for the BTech programme candidates are required to have valid scores in JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Once the selection round has been completed, they have to take part in a course-related counselling process leading up to an end allocation of seats.
