Mumbai University BSc Admission 2021: Eligibility, Dates, Process

The University of Mumbai invites applications for its programmes by the end of June every year and the application process continues until the last week of July. Mumbai University BSc admission 2021 is conducted via two ways – through an entrance exam and merit in the last qualifying exam. For the year 2021, the admission cycle might see a shift because of the ongoing pandemic. Stay tuned with Shiksha.com for further updates.

Candidates seeking enrolment are required to submit the pre-enrollment form along with the application form to get admission. Selected candidates, who find their name in their merit lists released by the University, are required to appear for a document verification process to confirm their seat.

Mumbai University Admission 2021: BSc

At the UG level, the University of Mumbai offers a three-year BSc and five-year Integrated BSc-MSc programme at the UG level. A few highlights around Mumbai University BSc admission are as follows:

Mumbai University BSc Admission 2021

BSc programme under MU is available in 14 specialisations as listed in the tables below.

  • Admission to BSc in Hospitality Studies will be based on merit in a written examination, GD and PI conducted by the University
  • For BSc in Nautical Sciences, final selection is based on an entrance test conducted at all India level
  • For all the remaining BSc specialisations, selection is completely based on merit scores in Class 12

Home Science

A pass in Class 12 with a language subject and any two of subjects among Physics, Chemistry, Biology OR Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Child Development, Textile Laundry and Clothing

Computer Science

A pass in Class 12 with Mathematics and Statistics as subjects

Information Technology (IT)*

A pass in Class 12 with Mathematics and Statistics with a minimum of 45% aggregate (40% for reserved category students)

Biotechnology

A minimum aggregate of 45% in Class 12 with PCB (40% for reserved categories)

Hospitality Studies

A pass in Class 12 with 45% aggregate (40% for reserved category students)

Nautical Sciences

Candidate must have passed Class 12 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects

Aviation

A pass in Class 12 with English, Mathematics and Physics OR Those with a 3-year Diploma in Engineering (IT / Computer Technology /Computer Engineering /CS / Electrical, Electronics & Video Engineering & allied branches / Mechanical & allied branches / Chemical & allied branches / Civil & allied branches)

Aeronautics (Avionics)

At least 45% aggregate (40% for reserved category students) with English, Physics and Mathematics OR

Those having a 3-year Diploma awarded by any Government body in following branches of Engineering: Mechanical /Electronics /Electrical/ Computer/ IT/ Automobile/ Industrial Electronics/ Radio Engineering and Telecommunication/ Instrumentation

Aeronautics (Mechanical)

Maritime Sciences

- A pass in Class 12 with PCM and English

- Candidate must be unmarried

Sports Management

Class 12 in any stream

Maritime Hospitality Studies

Class 12 with a minimum of 50% aggregate in English (45% for reserved categories)

Forensic Science

Class 12 with Science stream

*NOTE: Those who’ve passed Diploma in IT/ Computer Technology/ Computer Engineering/ CS/ Electrical, Electronics and Video Engineering & allied branches/ Mechanical & allied branches/ Civil & allied branches are eligible for direct admission to the second year of BSc IT.

Mumbai University Admission 2021: Integrated BSc-MSc

The University offers the five-year Integrated MSc programme in three specialisations. Admission to this course is completely based on merit scores in Class 12 and the minimum eligibility requirement for is across all its specialisations is tabulated below:

Integrated BSc-MSc Specialisation

Eligibility Criteria

Basic Sciences*

 

A pass in Class 12 from a recognised board with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for reserved categories)

Bioanalytical Sciences

A pass in Class 12 from Science stream with Maths and Stats, Biology, Chemistry and Physics as subjects with 50% aggregate (45% for reserved category candidates)

Computer Science

A pass in Class 12 or Diploma in Technical Education with 60% aggregate (55% for reserved categories)

* Integrated MSc programme is also available under four sub-specialisations, which include Physics, Life Science, Mathematics and Chemistry.

Mumbai University BSc Application Process 2021

Mumbai University BSc application form 2021 is out in the last week of June on the official website (mu.ac.in). Candidates seeking admission must fill the application form followed by a pre-enrollment form online. For access to the login window of Mumbai University application form 2021, candidates are required to register first (on the official website).

  • Admission to all the courses offered by MU is based solely on the marks scored by candidates in the qualifying examination
  • Candidates seeking admission to various affiliated colleges under MU might also require to also apply to the affiliated college, individually

After filling the online application form and paying the application fee (which varies with every specialisation), candidates must wait for the Mumbai University first merit list 2021.

  • The University releases three to four merit lists based on the different categories of the candidates and programmes
  • Candidates who manage to clear the merit lists must report to the college for document verification and counselling procedure
  • Mumbai University merit list 2021 is based on the marks scored by candidates in the entrance test/ last qualifying exam.

Once the document verification process is completed, candidates can submit the admission fee and claim their seat.
