EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS The minimum educational qualification required to pursue this course is 10+2 Science stream schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. Students should have passed 12th Board examination from a Recognized Board. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally around 50-60% marks in Board Examination. B.Sc. Degree holders (subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) may also pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally between 50-60% marks in final year of Degree program. Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) Graduates (any branch) may also pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally between 50-60% marks in final year of Degree program.

B.Sc (Nautical Science) is 3 years duration program with total intake of 120 at IMU Chennai campus. All admissions to the various UG and PG programmes of the IMU and its Affiliated Institutes will be through an all-India Online Common Entrance Tests (CETs) which will be conducted in the month of June 2019. Registration Fee is Rs. 1000 for General candidates and Rs. 700 for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates. CET Syllabus - English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics at Plus 2 level. For Online Registration, applicants should visit the website of the Indian Maritime University and click on the CET June 2019 hyperlink. The online registrations will be start in the month of April. Eligibility criteria :- 10+2/ equivalent (PCM-60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.) Note: In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks. 

Documents such as adhaar card, pan card, passport size photograph, marksheets of 10+2 etc. are some general specified documents which you will require to carry everywhere. Other requirements can vary and depends on the college you wish to enroll into. If you appear for any entrance exam and clear the cutoff score, the exam can help you get into your desired universities.

There is no CGPA concept at IMU Navi Mumbai Indian Maritime University. There is percentage for passing exam that is 50 percent for both theory with internal exam and whatever marks you get you can calculate the percentage out of it.

After the affiliation from Indian Maritime University (IMU) in 2016, TMI has made the entrance test TMISAT and IMUCET mandatory for getting enrolled in the Institute. It is necessary and mandatory to qualify these two tests along with other minimum eligibility criteria to join the Institute. Earlier, till 2015 TMI accepted the enrollment on the basis of BITSAT and interview but after the affiliation the criteria changed. The highest package offered was 45 LPA USD in the 2020 placement drive. International Maritime Institute has a 100% placement record. The institute is associated with various premier shipping companies like Maersk Line, Maersk Tankers, MSC, Fleet, PIL, Dockendale, Synergy, VR Maritime, V- Group, and Dynacom, among others. Many of these companies visit IMI for their campus placement drive for Deck, and others call the cadets to their office for a written test followed by an interview. Deck cadets must have sponsorship from a reputed shipping company for admission to the DNS course. The engine cadets undergoing the 4-year B Tech ME and GME cadets participate in the Campus Placement respectively. To prepare these candidates, comprehensive Personality Development Classes are conducted, and each candidate is put through a General Aptitude& Reasoning Ability Test. A round of internal assessment and a mock interview by a Chief Engineer are also conducted.
