GITAM Opens Ph.D. Admissions 2026 with Fellowship and Translational Research Support

GITAM Deemed to be University has opened applications for PhD admissions for the academic year 2026–27 across its Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru campuses. Applications close on 11 May 2026. The full-time PhD programme offers a monthly fellowship of INR 33,000 for a maximum of three years.
7th May 2026: GITAM Deemed to be University has opened applications for PhD admissions for the academic year 2026–27 across its Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru campuses. Applications close on 11 May 2026.
The full-time PhD programme offers a monthly fellowship of INR 33,000 for a maximum of three years. Scholars get access to research facilities and support for conferences and workshops. They also get opportunities to work with national laboratories, industry experts, and foreign universities through collaborative projects.
 
Admissions are open across Engineering, Science, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Pharmacy, Law, Architecture, and Public Policy. The admission process consists of the GITAM Research Admissions Test, named GReAT, followed by an interview. Candidates with valid CSIR, UGC NET, GATE, GPAT, ICAR, or DBT-JRF scores, and eligible candidates applying under the extramural category, are exempted from GReAT and can appear directly for the interview.
 
GITAM’s doctoral research is supported by the Multidisciplinary Unit of Research on Translational Initiatives, known as MURTI. The platform brings together more than 300 multidisciplinary experts and goal-oriented research clusters, supported by more than ₹100 crore invested in multidisciplinary translational research infrastructure.
 
MURTI supports research across six focus areas: basic sciences, mobility technologies, materials and manufacturing, communication technologies, agricultural technologies, and sensor technologies. The platform is designed to help scholars work on defined research problems that require cross-disciplinary methods.
 
Researchers have access to advanced instruments listed on GITAM’s I-STEM platform, including a 500 MHz NMR spectroscope, powder X-ray diffractometer, LC-MS QToF HRMS system, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, field emission scanning electron microscope, confocal laser scanning microscope, flow cytometer, fluorescence-activated cell sorting system, 3D printers, and CNC machining facilities. These instruments support work in molecular characterisation, chromatography and mass spectrometry, genomics, proteomics, cell biology, microscopy, materials science, nanotechnology, environmental analysis, and advanced manufacturing.
According to GITAM’s Ph.D. admissions communication and institutional data, the university has recorded 300+ patents, 370+ research projects, 173,000+ citations, and a Scopus h-index of 100.

Yes, students can join GITAM without the GITAM Admission Test (GAT). For admissions basis the entrance tests, some of the commonly national/state level accepted entrance tests are JEE Mains, KCET, etc. Direct admissions are also available for students under the Management quota.
