Thapar University Library: Inside the Nava Nalanda Central Library

Nava Nalanda Central Library (NNCL) is an iconic, five-storied building in the heart of the Thapar Institute campus. The library is spread over 7182 square meters, with 2044 square meters of garden area. Over 800 students can sit in the library at any given time, with special provisions made for differently-abled students. The central library has been ranked No.7 among the world's most beautiful college libraries by Architecture Digest. 

The library is equipped with modern technology such as an RFID-based security System, Self-Check-in, and Self-Return system with minimal human interference. The library also has dedicated group discussion rooms with LED projectors and Wi-Fi where students can work in groups. There is also an 80-seat seminar hall for training and user orientation for a large group.

Students get access to digital collections and excellent study environments and facilities. The university provides access to 2,800 newspapers and 4,000 magazines, both national and international.

Thapar University Library Collection

The students enrolled at the institute get access to the physical library, ie., Nava Nalanda Central Library, as well as a digital library. The resources available in print cover textbooks, include reference books (Encyclopedia, Handbooks, etc.), Competitive Examination collection (IAS, PCS, NET, GATE, IES, etc.), professional development, Leisure Reading (Novel, Fiction, etc.), Personality Development, Soft Skills, etc. The library provided an option to translate news articles in multiple languages, including Hindi.   

The print collection includes over 12,5,125 books, 13,095 bound volumes of journals, 3507 theses, 4381 standards, and 88 print magazines and journals. Recently, the library has shifted to digital/online mode and procured over 2,94,340 E-books, 54,000 video lectures, 2,82,800+ E-theses, CDs, 50,600+ corporate proceedings, 1,800+ magazines, and multimedia content. Thapar University Library Booking

Students have the opportunity to apply for a library night pass on the official website, through which they can access the library during night hours. This service is only available completely online to students during examinations. The library's various discussion rooms can also be booked through the university's official portal (https://cl.thapar.edu/gdroom/). Thapar Library Timings and Services

The library remains open all weekdays. Staff-operated services are available between 08:00 AM and 08:30 PM every day, including Sundays, except a few gazetted holidays. The library is fully automated and runs on the KOHA (Library Management System). Students can borrow books for 30 days and renew as needed. Check the list below to see the services available:
