    Q&A Icon
    Commonly asked questions
    On Comparisons
Q:   How does the fee structure of a Goa University BE compare to NIT or BITS Goa?
    A:

Selecting a BE at a state-affiliated college under Goa University is affordable than other premium local colleges. For instance, the total tuition at the affiliated Goa College of Engineering (GEC) is ~INR 3.6 Lakh, whereas NIT Goa costs about INR 5.6 Lacs and IIT Goa is around INR 9.36 Lakh. BITS Pilani Goa is the most expensive, with fees over INR 21 Lakh.

Q:   Which institution offers the best Return on Investment (ROI) for a BE in Goa?
    A:

When evaluating the Return on Investment for a BE, the affiliated colleges of Goa University perform very well due to their low entry costs. Some statistics suggest that NIT Goa currently holds the highest ROI in the state at around 129%, closely followed by IIT Goa and GEC Ponda. These institutions balance moderate-to-low fees with strong placement records, ensuring that students recover their educational investment quickly compared to high-fee private universities, where the initial costs are pretty high.

Q:   How do rankings compare for a BE from Goa University versus national institutes?
    A:

Talking academic prestige, a BE degree from Goa University affiliated colleges holds strong local value, but national institutes typically rank higher in pan-India surveys. For example, NIT Goa and IIT Goa are often placed in the 101-150 band in the NIRF engineering category. Meanwhile, Goa University itself holds an overall India rank of 94. While the university provides a solid regional foundation, students aiming for national-level research opportunities often prefer the specialised infrastructure found at the state's central government institutions.

Q:   What is the ranking of Goa University?
    A:

Goa University provides higher education in the state of Goa. It is accredited with 'A+' Grade by NAAC and approved by UGC. Goa University has been ranked under multiple streams namely Management, Engineering, Computer Application, Pharmacy, etc. A few of the important Goa University rankings are mentioned below:

The infrastructure is good and vast. Love the fact that it is surrounded by nature.
Placements: About 40-48% of students got placed last year. The highest salary package offered is 12.45 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 3.25 LPA. The average salary package offered is 5.4 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Vedanta, IFB Industries Ltd, etc. Around 65-68% of students got internships from my course in companies like Vedanta, Godrej Siemens, etc. Top roles offered are quality control engineer, production engineer, and design engineer.
Infrastructure: Facilities offered are Wi-Fi, a canteen, a common room for girls, a huge library, etc. Each classroom is sufficient for up to 35 to 60 students. The infrastructure is better than other colleges in Goa. The college area is surrounded by nature. A bus is available to pick up and drop students from the bus stand to college and vice versa. Hostels are available with free Wi-Fi and geysers. The food quality is average in the mess. In the canteen, it is good. Medical facilities are provided. A gymkhana is available on campus with a lot of games.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is sometimes average. Teachers are very kind and feels like home. They are understanding and caring. The course taught is a bit relevant and applicable to industries. It definitely makes students a bit ready for industries. The courses I don't think can be enough for industrial applications. Semester exams are of moderate level. The passing percentage is 40%.
Other: I chose mechanical engineering because I want to become a marine officer. The best thing I feel about this course is that it is practical and technical, unlike other courses. Teaching new technologies and machinery instead of old ones which are now rarely in use and eliminating old subjects like engineering graphics which are now not in use. There are a lot of events, fests, workshops, and other stuff going on for the overall personality development of students.

This is the worst engineering college in Goa.
Placements: There is no proper placement in this college. We had just one company in our college last semester. They took an aptitude test and never returned back with the result, never even informing us about what happened and such. The college takes the entire credit for students who have cracked the interviews off campus, which is very bad on their part.
Infrastructure: The college campus is really well, but when you look at the campus entirely, you will realize that it is the Homeopathy college, engineering college, a pre-primary school, a secondary school, a higher secondary school, everything in the same campus. The college lacks infrastructure. It is just one building with three classes and 2 labs on each floor, no proper functioning of the projectors, no proper Wi-Fi in the college.
Faculty: The faculty seems fine. They have done their Masters and know how to teach, but they are really rude and toxic. They just come, read the slides, and walk off. When you ask them some doubts, they point out, saying, "What were you doing during class?" Engineering is not easy. It has really complex algorithms and things to understand which cannot be understood in one go.
Other: There are no cultural fests or events organized in the college. There is one event for namesake, which is organized like any other event. Everything is so poor. There is a small ground where they put a small Mandap and set up a small stage, and it is called an event.

All About GEC College in Goa You Should Know.
Placements: Around 80% of the students were placed in companies. The highest placement is approximately 8 lakhs, and the lowest placement is 2.5 lakhs. Top companies like Cipla, Suzlon, and others. 100% of the students get internships from the college depending on the backlogs. If you have not cleared the semester, you can go for internships after clearing it.
Infrastructure: There is Wi-Fi in every department. The labs are big and very convenient. The library has a lot of educational books. The hostel is good, and the quality of the rooms and canteen food is good. Medical facilities are available, and there are many sports grounds and indoor games.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and qualified. They have the best faculty in Goa for engineering. The teaching quality is very good. The curriculum is relevant, and the students are made industry-ready. The practicals are held well. The semester is easy if you cope with the syllabus.
Other: I chose this course out of passion, not because I was forced into it. The best thing about the course is the many opportunities; it covers both hardware and software, so it's very useful, and the potential is high.

Average student life of civil engineer.
Placements: Around 80 to 85% of students get placed. The highest package is around 35k, and the lowest package is 15k. The average package is around 20k. Ultratech is one of the best companies that come for recruitment. Almost all of the students got internships from our course.
Infrastructure: All types of books are available in our library for each department. There are different sections for different books. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus, especially in our hostel. They provide Ethernet cables with which we can connect our laptops directly. The food quality of the hostel is not so good, but not so bad; it's average. The washrooms are clean, and the room is big enough for five people.
Faculty: Faculty members are very experienced and knowledgeable. Exams are taken every 2 months, and at the end of the semester, a final exam will be taken. Especially in our department, we had a lot of practicals conducted by faculty members. We had different site visits and field trips to different companies.

Good college, average placement and sports facility.
Placements: In my class out of 60, only 10-15 were placed, with the highest package of 8 LPA and an average of 3 LPA. Top recruiting companies offering good packages were OneShield, Visteon, Infuse, and Turtlemint. In our 7th semester, it was compulsory to apply for an internship, so some of the students got offers from those companies themselves.
Infrastructure: Labs are well-maintained with AC and have the best processors. The library is well-equipped, having all textbooks and free Wi-Fi. Classrooms are average but always clean. There is no hostel facility. There is no sports facility; at the time of admission, they told us that we can use Agnels ground but not always, only during events. The canteen is not good.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified but not all teachers teach well. The curriculum is set by Goa University and ASL College follows the same. The subjects are easy to pass, but some students got blocked. The curriculum doesn't have practical applications to make students industry-ready.
