At G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated based on a grading system. The university follows a 10-point grading system, where grades are assigned numerical values from 10 to 0. Here is the general process for calculating CGPA:
1. Grade assignment: Each course is assigned a grade based on the student's performance in that course. The grading system typically includes grades such as A, B, C, D, and F, with corresponding grade points.
2. Grade points: Each grade is associated with a specific grade point. The exact grade point values may vary, but they generally follow a scale like the one shown below:
- A: 10
- B: 8
- C: 6
- D: 4
- F: 0 (denotes failure)
3. Credit hours: Each course is assigned a certain number of credit hours, which represent the weightage or value of that course. Credit hours reflect the amount of time and effort required to complete the course. For example, a theory course might have 3 credit hours, while a practical or lab-based course might have 1 credit hour.
4. Grade points earned: To calculate the grade points earned for a particular course, the grade point for that grade is multiplied by the credit hours assigned to the course.
5. Total grade points: The total grade points earned for all courses are calculated by summing up the grade points earned in each course.
6. Total credit hours: The total credit hours for all courses taken by the student are added together.
7. CGPA calculation: The CGPA is determined by dividing the total grade points earned by the total credit hours completed. The result is the student's CGPA on a 10-point scale.
For example, let's say a student completes four courses with the following grade points and credit hours:
Course 1: Grade B (8 points), 3 credit hours
Course 2: Grade A (10 points), 4 credit hours
Course 3: Grade C (6 points), 2 credit hours
Course 4: Grade B (8 points), 3 credit hours
Total grade points earned = (8 * 3) + (10 * 4) + (6 * 2) + (8 * 3) = 108
Total credit hours completed = 3 + 4 + 2 + 3 = 12
CGPA = Total grade points earned / Total credit hours completed = 108 / 12 = 9
So, in this example, the student's CGPA would be 9 on a 10-point scale.
It's important to note that this is a general overview of CGPA calculation at G.B. Pant University, and there may be specific variations or additional considerations depending on the university's policies or programme requirements. It's advisable for students to refer to the official documentation or consult with their academic advisors for precise details on CGPA calculation methods at the university.
