JMI application form 2026 for admission to the offered courses will be released in the first week of March 2026 at admission.jmi.ac.in. The JMI 2026 entrance exam is expected to be held in April/May 2026. To be eligible to take JMI entrance test, candidates must complete the JMI registration by filling JMI entrance exam application form. Before submitting online form, candidates must make sure they fulfill the JMI eligibility criteria for their target course. After the exam is conducted, Jamia Millia Islamia will release the JMI 2026 cut off and provisional merit list for admission. Only students who make it on the merit lists are called for interviews or counselling rounds based on their respective programmes.

Jamia Millia Islamia conducts JMI entrance exam once a year. JMI also accepts JEE, NATA, CUET, and NEET scores for relevant courses. Those who take CUET for these programmes do not have to appear for the JMI Entrance Exam. But, they do have to apply for admission on JMI's website.

What is the JMI Entrance Exam?

Jamia Millia Islamia conducts JMI Entrance Exam once every year for admissions to UG and PG courses offered by the university along with PG Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Diploma, MPhil, PhD, and certificate courses under various faculties/ departments/ centres such as Engineering, Architecture & Planning, Hospitality & Travel, Animation, Mass Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences, Languages, Commerce, Natural Sciences, Dentistry, Law, Fine Arts, Management Studies as well as Teaching & Education

Details about JMI admissions through JEE, NATA and NEET scores are given here.

  • For BTech: Admission to the B.Tech program of Jamia Millia Islamia is based on the final rank of JEE (Main) that is conducted by the National Test Agency (NTA). To be admitted to the BTech programme at JMI, candidates who submit the JEE Main online form must separately submit the Jamia Millia Islamia online application form at www.jmicoe.in.
  • For B.Arch: Similarly, candidates need to clear the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of Architecture, fill out the admission form for JMI and enter the NATA application number in the JMI form. The rank list is published based on the final rank secured in NATA, strictly as per merit and JMI Admission Policy. During the counselling sessions, candidates must bring the NATA scorecard for admission to the B.Arch program at JMI.
  • For BDS: Admissions to the B.D.S. program at JMI are based on the rank secured in NEET conducted by NTA. Candidates must choose Jamia Millia Islamia with the appropriate reservation category in the NEET application form. No separate form is required to be filled out at JMI or its website by the candidates. 
  • For Ph.d: The schedule of admission tests for the Ph.D. program is notified separately.

Q:   What is the Tie-Breaking Policy in JMI?
A: 

Tie-breaking is a policy which is adopted to break the tie in case two candidates get the same scores in the JMI entrance exam.

In all courses except BTech, BArch, BDS, the tie is resolved on basis of date of birth that is the candidates older in age is given the higher rank. For interview programmes, candidates securing high marks in the entrance exam will be given higher rank. If the marks in written test are same then date of birth criteria is used that is, candidates older in age is given a higher rank. For the BTech, BArch and BDS programmes, the rank of the candidate is allotted by the agency conducting the test.

Q:   What if I lose my JMI Entrance Exam Admit Card?
A: 

In case you lose your Jamia Milia Islamia Entrance Exam Admit Card, you can download it again from JMI official website or the JMI application portal. But, they must ensure to visit the portal 1-2 days before exam date and keep admit card safe and secure a copy of the admit card to avoid any last moment inconvenience.

Q:   How do I get into Jamia for mass communication?

Jamia Millia Islamia's mass communication courses are taught at AJK MCRC or AJK Mass Communication Research Centre. To apply for these courses, aspirants must take the JMI Entrance Exam. JMI Entrance Exam 2026 Pattern

The JMI Entrance Exam Pattern is prescribed by Jamia Millia University each year. According to pattern for Mass Communication, candidates need to attempt 200 questions in 3 hours. The JMI entrance question paper will include multiple choice questions. There will be no subjective questions. The entrance exam for admission in courses offered at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre contains two sections.

  • Section A comprises objective types questions from National and international political issues/personalities, General knowledge, Film, Television and other media, Art, Literature and culture etc.
  • Section B comprises essay-type long answers that reflect the candidates' critical understanding of contemporary issues and the media.

This paper also evaluates candidates' skills in visualization, story-telling, and their creative aptitude. Aspirants who clear the written entrance exam are eligible to appear for the interview and portfolio submission round.

Candidates must note that the test pattern for different programmes may vary. But, the basic structure like the mode and the time duration remains the same across courses.

The JMI Entrance Exam eligibility criteria vary from course to course. The same for different courses is listed below - 

MA Mass Communication 

The eligibility criteria of the JMI Entrance Exam for this course state that a candidate who is a graduate in any discipline (in the 10+2+3 pattern) is eligible to apply for admission to the MA Mass Communication course at Jamia Millia Islamia University. Apart from this, the candidate should have secured at least 50 per cent marks in aggregate at the graduation level.

MA Mass Media (Hindi)

The JMI eligibility criteria for this course is that a candidate who has a graduate degree in any discipline can apply. But, the candidate must have at least 50 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA grade from a university or institution recognized by JMI.

MA (Convergent Journalism) (Self-Financed)

AJK MCRC states that any candidate who is a graduate in any stream from a recognized college with a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate marks meets the eligibility criteria for this course admissions.

MA (Media & Governance)

The eligibility criteria for MA in Media & Governance states that a candidate must have at least 50 per cent in aggregate at graduate level in any discipline.

PG Diploma in Urdu Mass Media

For Urdu Mass Media course admissions, candidates should have cleared graduation with at least 45% marks in Urdu/Persian/Arabic. 

PG Diploma in TV Journalism (Hindi Medium) (Self-Financed)

To be eligible for admission in this course, aspirants should have completed their graduation from a recognized college (in any stream) with at least 45 per cent aggregate marks.

PG Diploma in Broadcast Technology (Self-Financed)

The eligibility criteria for admission in this course state that any candidate who has completed his/ her graduation with a minimum aggregate of 50% in any subject is eligibile to apply.

However, a point to note is that only aspirants who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in their Class XII are eligible to apply for admission. Also, the entrance test for this course will be in MCQs format only.

PG Diploma in Still Photography & Visual Communication (Self-Financed)

Candidates who have completed their graduation (10+2+3) in any discipline and have scored at least 50 per cent marks in aggregate are eligible to apply for admissions.

PG Diploma in Acting (Self-Financed)

Candidates with graduation in 10+2+3 format in any discipline can apply.

BA (Hons) (Mass Media Hindi)

The eligibility criteria for admissions in this course at Jamia Millia Islamia University states that interested candidates should have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in their Class 12.

JMI Eligibility 2026 for Other Courses

For BTech, admission is offered to eligible candidates as per merit based on the final ranks of candidates in JEE Main

For BArch, admission is offered to eligible candidates as per merit based on the final ranks of candidates in NATA conducted by the Council of Architecture.

3. Fill in Academic Details

Candidates have to give the academic details such as class 12 board/university name, year of passing, marks obtained, college name, division/grade, total marks and percentage for UG level program, and the details of class 12 and graduation for PG level program. Candidates whose results are awaited should select on the 'result awaited' check box. After that candidates have to upload the original marksheet of the last passing year/ semester.

4. Pay JMI Entrance Exam Application Fee

After completing the JMI application form, the next step is to pay the application fee. Candidates can pay the fee via online mode via credit card/ debit card/ net banking.

JMI Entrance Exam 2026 Admit Card

The JMI admit card for entrance exam conducted by Jamia Millia Islamia will be made available at Admission Portal. JMI entrance exam admit card is a mandatory document to be carried by students to their exam centres. If a candidate fails to bring the admit card, they won't be allowed to take the exam. Candidates who will successfully complete the JMI application process will be issued hall ticket. They can download the admit card by logging in to the admission portal, using their application ID and password.

JMI will inform about the release of hall ticket via SMS on the registered number. Usually the JMI entrance exam admit card is released a week before the exam dates. Once the candidates download their admit cards, they have to take a printout and paste their self-attested passport-size recent coloured photograph in the space provided. Candidates have to carry two copies of their admit card to the allotted test centre as they are required to submit one to the invigilator at the time of the exam. Jamia Millia Islamia conducts JMI Counselling separately for different courses on different dates in offline mode.
