The selection process of JMI mass communication includes multiple stages. Candidates seeking admission at Jamia Millia Islamia through JMI entrance test must complete each stage to ensure they secure a seat for their target course.

Below is the detailed JMI mass communication selection process to be followed by aspirants for admission.

JMI Application Process

To get admission at Jamia Millia Islamia for offered mass communication courses, candidates must register themselves online on the official JMI admission portal by adding required details. After registering, candidates have to log in using the created JMI login details. Once logged in, candidates can fill and submit the JMI entrance exam application form by selecting the Mass Communication course.

While filling online form, candidates must upload relevant documents in given format and size. After adding all details, applicants have to pay the JMI mass communication application fee of INR 1000 online using Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking. The application form for JMI entrance exam 2026 released on February 20, 2026.

JMI Admit Card

Jamia Millia Islamia will release the admit card for entrance exam on April 17 for only those candidates who have successfully submitted the JMI online form. The Jamia Millia Islamia admit card 2026 will include details like candidate's name and other details, exam date, duration, exam centre address and exam day instructions. Candidates must note that the hall ticket is a mandatory document and if a candidate fails to bring their admit card with them, they will not be allowed to enter the JMI exam centre.

JMI Entrance Exam

The Jamia Millia Islamia entrance test for mass communication courses will be conducted in offline mode from April 26 to June 05, 2026. The question paper will include two multiple choice questions and subjective questions, testing students on various parameters. The duration of mass communication entrance test of JMI is 3 hours. The university will announce the JMI entrance exam date 2026 on its official website. 

JMI Entrance Exam Result

After the entrance exam is conducted, the university releases JMI result. The result for JMI mass communication exam includes merit list with names of selected candidates and JMI cut off marks. The JMI result will be declared at admission.jmi.ac.in.

Note: Only candidates who qualify the entrance test will be eligible to appear for interview round.

JMI Interview or Group Discussion

Jamia Millia Islamia conducts interviews for limited courses only. The details about interview and courses are shared in JMI admission prospectus. Usually the JMI interview round is conducted for PG courses only.

During the interview, candidates have to submit their portfolio (if required). A candidate's portfolio must have following.

  • Production work (audio/ visual media-based)
  • Proof of participation in social activities (involvement with NGOs or social organisations)
  • Published work (articles, stories, news, etc., published in reputed journals, websites and magazines)
  • Internship/ work experience with a reputed media house
  • Participation in extra-curricular activities (debating, painting, music, theatre etc.)

JMI Entrance Exam Counselling Process

The university conducts JMI entrance exam counselling for different courses on different dates in offline mode. Candidates with their names in the result must participate in the counselling process to secure seat. The schedule for JMI counselling is released on the official website. Once the selected candidates complete their counselling process and make the fee payment, their admission to JMI mass communication courses will be officially completed. After completing all the formalities, candidates can then begin their classes.

No, candidates will not be allowed to appear for the examination without a valid photo ID. Candidates are advised to keep the following three things ready with them, a day before the examination; a valid photo ID proof, JMI admit card, and a recent passport-sized photograph. These are the mandatory documents to be produced during entry to the JMI exam centre. The valid photo identity card which would be allowed at the JMI Entrance Exam exam centre include Aadhaar card/ Driving Licence/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Voter Id. The admit card should also have the self-attested passport sized photographs pasted on it.

The duration of JMI entrance exam is different for different programmes. For mass communication,  the JMI exam duration is 3 hours. For rest of the courses, the duration is between 1 hour 30 minutes to 3 hours.
