A short review of the Department of Linguistics, North Eastern Hill University Shillong .

Placements: A total number of 45 students were placed in my course but a few ended up dropping out in the first semester due to personal reasons. We are not offered any packages and none of us is going for internships either. But from time to time, we get opportunities to work with researchers.

Infrastructure: The department has enough classrooms in the department therefore we do not need to use the cluster classroom much. We also have a conference hall and a computer lab in the department. The classroom also has a projector to be used during classes. The department has enough faculty, both teaching and non-teaching staff.

Faculty: The course needs to be updated but the teachers are well qualified and are indeed very good teachers with a very good attitude. The course curriculum is relevant and introduces us to all the things we do in our field. The semester exams are not too difficult and the pass percentage varies but a good number of students pass every semester.

Other: The student body on the campus organizes Varsity Fests annually, engaging students in different activities. The university also provides scholarships for students with financial difficulties.

The highest and lowest salary packages secured by a student during their campus placement vary widely, depending on the course and industry. Common recruiters across various courses might include multinational corporations, large national firms, and prominent organizations in relevant sectors. Coding includes companies like Wipro, Infosys, Amazon, Deloitte, TCS, etc. The percentage of students securing internships could range from 70% to 100% for professional courses. The roles offered to students depend on the course. Some examples were software developers, network engineers, marketing managers, research scientists, lab technicians, environmental consultants, policy analysts, etc.

Infrastructure: NEHU provided Wi-Fi connectivity across the campus, including academic buildings, libraries, and hostels, to facilitate student activities and research activities. Labs were equipped with the necessary instruments and technology pertinent to the courses offered. Classrooms were designed to be conducive to learning. Curriculum updates were often based on industry feedback and emerging trends to ensure students gain relevant skills. Semester exams could be moderately challenging and designed to test a comprehensive understanding of the subjects. Regular study, understanding of concepts, and practical applications were crucial for success.

The college is nice. You can apply.

Placements: The placement is good in the college; this course placement is also good. However, day by day, a lot of improvement is being made by the college. The students are placed, but in the other course, placement is better. In this course, the placement percentage is 70%, and the highest package offered is 5 LPA, while the lowest is 2 LPA, and the average is 3.5 LPA.

Infrastructure: In the college, the infrastructure is good. There are common amenities like AC and Wi-Fi available, and there is a well-equipped central library. The hostel and the classrooms are neat and clean. The quality of food is decent, and there are medical supports and sports available.

Faculty: In the college, the faculty are really nice. They always help the students with any problems. They give students a doubt-solving class, and the course is well-organized. The teaching environment is friendly, and the semester exams are challenging but rewarding. The pass percentage is above 85%.
