There are two types of counselling held in India for BTech admission: National level and state level.

TNEA Counselling for Tamil Nadu State BTech Admission
In Tamil Nadu, JEE Main or any state-level entrance exam marks are not considered for BE/BTech admission. The state only takes into account the class 12 marks of the candidates for allocating BTech seats in State Government and State Government Aided Engineering Colleges, University Departments, and Constituent Colleges of Anna University, and Annamalai University. The online TNEA counselling is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Chennai.
Admission based on: The TNEA counselling is based on class 12 marks only.

A pass in the HSC (Academic: both +1 and +2) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage is given below:

UPTAC, short for Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling, is an online state-level counselling process aimed at facilitating admissions to the first year of the BTech program in institutions affiliated or constituent to AKTU and other state universities. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh organizes the MP BE Counselling for admission to undergraduate engineering courses in the state. This admission process is for Government, Autonomous, Aided, Self-Financing, and Private Institutions in Madhya Pradesh. Admission is based on JEE Main and class 12 marks. The 2026 MP BE counselling will consist of two rounds, with seat allotment in rounds 1 and 2 based solely on JEE Main scores. The process of JEE Main counselling and seat allotment consists of several processes. Once a seat is allotted to a candidate, he/she has the option of Accept and Freeze, Accept and Float and Slide.
