Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University offers BTech across five specialisations. During SMVDU cutoff 2023, the closing rank for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering was 94017, for B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering was 227213, for B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering was 402493, for B.Tech. in Civil Engineering was 657668 and for B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering was 505053 for the General category All India seat. Hence, candidate with a rank of 1,35,000 in JEE Main can get a seat at SMVDU in all the specialisations except for BTech CSE as per the last year cutoff.

A: 

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University offers BE/BTech courses with a duration of 4 years. Admission to this course is based on JEE Main scores and it is not possible to get admission to SMVDU Katra without JEE Main or CUET UG.

Along  with this a lot of courses are offered by this university and all have different eligiblity and criterias. All applicants have to fill the Common Application form through ONLINE Mode for admission in UG and PG programmes.The candidates will be submitting an appication fee of Rs. 1,500/- while filling the ONLINE Application Form.

A medium college: Not too good, or not too bad.
Placements: 100 percent placements were observed in my course. The highest package was around 12 LPA and the lowest was around 5 LPA. The average package was around 6 LPA. In our course, BSES, Tata Power & L&T are the top recruiters. Very few students got internships through college. Most students got internships on their own. Senior manager is the top role offered.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is too good. It is none less than IITs. We have world-class labs, and classrooms are mid to good. Wi-Fi is available on the entire campus. Library is one of the finest of this country, while in the hostel, the food is good. Rooms are big and fully furnished. Medical facilities are top-notch, and the sports environment is too good.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is above average. Our course curriculum is too relevant to the modern demands. They do make students industry-ready. Semester exams are quite difficult. A few teachers set IIT-level question papers. The pass percentage is around 80-90.

Peaceful campus, strong academics, limited placements, and industry exposure.
Placements: In case of placement they try to give opportunities but don't succeed very well. As 9.5 LPA is the highest package by B.Tech CSE on-campus but off-campus doing well as B.Tech CSE got 2 times 36 LPA as the highest. In my batch of 2025 total of 109 students were there. Internship opportunities are also provided by the university in various fields and teachers provide projects to students for their internships. There is a whole system that helps students find internships.
Infrastructure: Not all hostels are in very good condition but they try to improve. It takes time because many hostels are very old as among the 5 boys' hostels, 4 of them were built before 2010 and they are all in need of some renovation. Ethernet is available at all times.
Faculty: The marking scheme of college has changed from the 2024 batch. It is like 1 minor exam of 20 marks, 20 marks quizzes, and 20 marks assignments/projects. As it is a university with various courses and departments and as of 2025 the university added a new course of B.Tech Robotics and AI.
Other: Campus life is awesome and I enjoyed it because of its location and events organised by the university. There are too many clubs that are active and engaged everywhere and doing so much well in their fields NCC is also available at the university.

College has good Infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: About 50% of students in the CSE and ECE departments got placed. The highest placement is 25 LPA, and the average is 6 LPA. The median placement is also around 6 LPA. My branch is new, and its first batch will get placed in 2029. The top recruiting companies are TCS and Infosys.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are quite good and even better than some of the NITs. Mess facilities are of up-to-par quality. Lab facilities are quite good, and new advanced labs like the AI-ML lab and Robotics lab are also available here. All types of labs are present, so the infrastructure is quite good.
Faculty: Some teachers are helpful, and some aren't, but yes, they are qualified. Their teaching quality is also average. The course curriculum is quite good and strict. You have to do a mandatory 45-day summer internship even in your first year too, and so it makes them industry-ready. The college follows a relatively relaxed marking system, so it's not that hard to get good grades, but you have to do quite a bit of preparation to pass exams.
Other: I had an interest in AI and new advanced technologies, and I thought it would be related to the CSE branch, so I chose this course. My branch is quite a mixture of CSE, Mech, and ECE.

Overall, college life is better.
Placements: Mathematics and computing were first opened in 2024. First time, first batch is from 24-28, so there is no placement history. Looking at the current record of this batch, it is assumed that most of the students will get placed. There are other activities held by the department, like trips and industrial visits for students. The head of the department is very helpful. If you talk to teachers, they are also available all the time.
Infrastructure: Facilities are mostly good wifi are available in academic block and hostel also classroom are mostly average in my department condition of classroom is good and lab facilities are best from my side best thing is there a library with over ten thousand books digital library also available there seperate study section and a different library for my dipartment also available medical facilities are good and in sports there a good everything available for playing games
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is mostly average. This course is relevant. The course is not as difficult as ECE or EE. It is very easy if you are interested in it. Semester exams are not that difficult. If you are studying, then it is not that hard for you. The difficulty level is different for everyone. The pass percentage is the same as that of other colleges.
Other: I chose this course because I am more interested in math. It is better than CSE or other courses. Events happen twice a year. Scholarships are available for the top six students in class, and there are different types of scholarships. There are also many extracurricular activities.

In 2023, it performed well in placements and rankings.
Placements: Placements are decent with around 50-70 percent of students getting placed. The highest package is 7 LPA-8 LPA and the average range is between 3.5 LPA-4.5 LPA. Hiring companies are TCS, Infosys, Accenture, and similar companies. Internship opportunities are also continuously improving.
Infrastructure: Excellent classrooms, good labs, and a library also provide Wi-Fi. Hostels are way too good, with average food, and medical facilities are also available with free check-ups. Then their is guest house facilities also, where rooms are literally good for only 650 cost.
Faculty: All teachers and professors are qualified and supportive. The curriculum is fairly relevant, but there is a little more requirement for practical and industry-oriented exposure for students. Then semester exams are moderately easy depending on subjects, and the pass percentage is almost high, around 75-85%.
Other: Overall, the infrastructure of the college, hostels, sports ground, and library is good and continuously improving.

Don't opt for this college if you want a good, fun college life.
Placements: Last year, around 45 students were in the final year of my course, out of which 28 got placed. The highest on campus package was 12 LPA offered by JSW, while the lowest was from a local Jammu-based startup, which gave around 4 LPA offer. Top recruiters at our college were L&T, JSW, Bosch, and the Tata group. Roles offered were of GET in various companies.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are above average, like first 2 years students get double sharing rooms, and they are spacious also, while in the last 2 years we get single rooms. Hostels are fully connected with LAN ports, but the mess food is a bit down side, which is ok what more can you expect? Classrooms are spacious and labs in our department are fully equipped, and we also have a central workshop where we have a manufacturing lab and thermal labs. In our college, we have one medical aid centre and a sports ground also. Overall, sports and medical facilities are decent.
Faculty: Mostly, teachers are passed out from IITs and are Ph.D. holders with in-depth knowledge in their respective fields. Some teachers are helpful, while some are a bit arrogant. I don't know why, but they are. The course curriculum is average because most of the important subjects have been removed in the new education policy. Semester exams so a bit tricky, which means you have to study well.
Other: Senior junior relation is very poor at this college. This college doesn't provide you with any social life, no fests, nothing. If you are looking to prepare for government exams or further studies, dude, this college is for you will have plenty of time here.
