Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab- Academics, campus life, and more

Placements: Around 90% of students get internships, with an average package of 7–8 LPA, top companies such as Dell, HP, Goldman Sachs, Adobe, and others visited the campus for placements, many students received PPOs, and the highest package was around 14–15 LPA..

Infrastructure: The research labs are well-equipped with instruments and sitting furniture. The Wi-Fi facility is available 24x7, classrooms are well-equipped with smart screens and projectors. A huge library with a good collection of different books is on campus. Hostels are well-furnished with single and double rooms and are equipped with AC. The quality of the mess food is very good, and night canteens are also available inside the hostels. The gym facility is available in the hostel as well. A dedicated sports complex and swimming pool are there for students.

Faculty: Faculty is well-qualified and expert in teaching, and the teaching quality is excellent. Exams are made to be a bit difficult in order to examine the understanding better. The curriculum is designed in such a way as to align with industry standards and includes well-curated lab experiments.

Other: Events and fests are held annually.

Reviews of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Placements: Around 50% of the students get placed. Students are eligible for placements in the last semester and they are informed about companies through the placement cell. The highest salary package offered was 6.5 LPA and the average salary package offered was 3 LPA. Students are assigned projects related to software.

Infrastructure: Library is very efficient. It has 3 floors and all kinds of books related to academic and non-academic subjects are available. The seating arrangement is very good. Air-conditioners and computers are present. In some classrooms, projectors are available. For sports, university has well-maintained stadiums like hokey stadium, cricket stadium and football stadium along with well-trained coaches. Hostels have 2 and 4-seater rooms. There is the facility of coolers but not air-conditioners in rooms. Hostels are very affordable. It has a garden, a canteen, a mess, a television room and a table tennis room. In mess meal quality is above average and there is a proper weekly menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A sweet dish is provided along with dinner.

Faculty: All the teachers are highly qualified, with doctorate degrees in particular fields. Teaching method is completely practical as there are lots of fields and each field is assigned to a particular professor who is conducting his research. Exams are held at a monthly interval and are not very difficult to pass. Pass percentage is around 50%.

The facilities are good, placements are well, but internships are not good.

Placements: Around 95% of students are placed in our university. The highest salary package offered is around 45 LPA. The average salary package offered is around 14 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered ranges from 3 LPA to 4 LPA. The opportunities are very less because around 200 students get internships from campus out of 2500 students. The top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Intuit video, and Net Gamescraft.

Infrastructure: The hostels are fully air-conditioned. The classrooms also provide air-conditioners. The hostel fee is around Rs 50,000 per semester. The facilities are very good, and it has a big ground for playing different sports. It provides a swimming pool, tennis court, badminton court, volleyball court, basketball court, volleyball court, and cricket stadium.

Faculty: Exams of this college are of average level, students can pass it in 1 or 2 days before the exam. Faculty members are not good, and students have attendance criteria of 75%, mandatory attendance of centers of these colleges around 35%. Students have a grading system in which a grade is the next that is 10 CGPA, and a minus is 9 b is 8 b - is 7 and c is 6 c minus is 5 and after that, students will fail.

Other: The facilities are good but the fee is very high like 20 lakhs for 4 years, and this is very high. The mess has a rush at peak times, and they cannot handle it. The hostels have laundry facilities also.

Other: The college has great teachers who have a lot of knowledge in their respective subjects. The placements are very nice and most of the big organizations like Microsoft, Google, Deloitte, Oracle, ZS Associate, IBM, TCS, HCL, Wipro and many more come for campus placements. There is a lot of research work you can do, and the curriculum is balanced. The labs are equipped with lots of equipment for all departments.

Other: Thapar has a beautiful campus, very good placements, good facility and best hostels. Patiala is also a very nice city, and some people might feel it is expensive but it is worth every penny. The average package for a CS student is around rupees 7-8 lakhs per annum. I am currently working and Thapar is very reputed among companies. If you are taking up computer science, then there is no need to worry.

How to apply through GATE? I am getting approximately 30.6 marks in GATE exam. What is the next procedure to get in this college?

Thapar University expected cut off is obviously less than IITs and NITs but not that much less. It would safely be upto GATE score of 450 to 500 and above. There is a separate entrance exam if all seats are not filled through GATE. You should apply for that. Best wishes
