Extra-curricular Activities in KIIT

Companies/ organisations prefer candidates who have achievements outside of studies as well.

KIIT being one of the best private institutes in the country believes in the overall development of its students & leaves no stone unturned to achieve the same. There are various student societies & clubs in all departments of Engineering. At present, there are four different technical student chapters at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology School of Civil engineering namely the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), Indian Society for Technical Education, The Institution of Engineers (India). All these chapters keep organising quiz competitions, workshops, site visits, technical talks & career development webinars on a regular basis. 

Clubs and Societies at KIIT

• Model UN Society
• Entrepreneurship cell: To provide necessary resources & assistance to the interested students in the field of entrepreneurship.
• NSS: KIIT has two separate units of NSS for boys & girls with 500 students in each. It is beneficial to the students with an inclination toward social work.
• NCC: One has to clear the multi-level selection process to be a part of NCC and the total strength of cadets is 50.
• Science & Spiritual Society.
• Keurig: It is the cooking society of KIIT for the budding chefs.
• Krative Eye: It is a platform where budding painters & photographers showcase their talents. The good thing about this society is that they keep organising photography & painting competitions on occasions like Foundation day, Republic day, Independence day, etc. 
• Kalakaar: It is the dramatics society of KIIT, which is also responsible for all the dramatic competitions that take place on the premises. 
• Kronicle: It is the debating & literary society of the university, and the active & best members of this society get an exclusive opportunity to participate in national/international level debate & extempore competitions.

All of these societies have faculty and student coordinators to help them run smoothly. If students have any doubts/queries with respect to any of these societies they may contact the coordinator concerned. Apart from these clubs/societies, students can also enrol themselves for swimming classes, dance classes, or any other sports activity. Also, several other cultural & sports activities are scheduled every year in which students can take part and excel. Particularly the university management organises KIIT FEST every year, a university-level program that includes cultural events, technical events, DJ Nights etc. This is the platform where students can showcase their skills & talent and exceptional ones are awarded lucrative prizes. The debate, declamation, extempore, etc & several other competitions are held that not only enhance one's interpersonal skills but also give an opportunity to be updated with what is going on in the country & the world. And if a student has a good rapport with his/ her seniors & teachers & has performed well in academics, he/ she also gets a chance to be a part of the event management committee or organising committees. These opportunities prepare students to tackle the hurdles that they may face in their lives or in the corporate world. The main aim is to bring the students from various fields under one roof, where they can share their thoughts, ideas and skills, which can help others & vice-versa.

I was also an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) during my second year of Engineering and I have experienced that it enhances your time managing & thinking skills, and at the same time it looks impressive on your CV, which helps you stand out from the lot. And if you are only bothered about your studies you can take these activities as a productive gap/break from your studies.
