I was able to overcome several hurdles due to my love for the subject: Aditi

The primary reason for choosing science in school was that there would be a wider scope and a plethora of subjects to choose from during graduation. Studying law was always my main aim ever since completing high school. Due to circumstances, I was unable to choose law and opted for a major in Political Science instead during my graduation. Looking back, I feel studying LLB after pursuing Political Science has given me a stronger foundation. Being a science student, those around me were sceptical and my parents were worried as I chose a new stream, completely different from what I had studied before. However, I was able to overcome several hurdles due to my love for the subject.

Now, coming to the reason as to why I chose Chettinad School of Law to pursue a Law degree was the extensive internship programme offered by the institute right from our first semester. Another convincing factor was that Chettinad offered seven (Honours) specialisations in a variety of legal fields. This is a unique feature of the programme and can be found in only a handful of institutions. Last but not the least, the Chettinad group has been a pioneer in the educational sphere and it was my parents' humble belief that this course offered by such a prominent institution would excel in terms of quality, dedication and sincerity.

For LLB (Hons.) students, the admission is based upon the marks scored at the undergraduate level. The University awarded scholarships to several meritorious students (for both the five years and three years course) who scored high grades in their respective exams. The University similarly granted me a scholarship as I had secured good grades in my UG course. I did try out for other institutions, however due to the unique internship programme and the various specialisations offered here, I chose to study in Chettinad School of Law.

In every aspect of our college life, we are encouraged to participate actively in academic and co-curricular endeavours. During the class hours and the capsule courses, the lively discussions that we partake in, help us comprehend the overall concept and the legal nuances in an effective way. We are also encouraged to take part in sports, extra-curricular & co-curricular activities, inter-collegiate events and conferences.  I have had the opportunity to participate so far in an international conference on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ and a national conference on ‘Artificial Intelligence & Law’. I’m also looking forward to attending a Moot Court Competition and an Arbitration competition in the coming month.

There are also various committees under the aegis of CHETSOL, which enable the students to pursue their individual interest and develop key skills at the same time, giving them an opportunity to take part in various activities throughout the academic year. I'm part of the Newsletter Committee (Care Konnect) and the Internship Committee, both of which have been a very enriching experience so far.

Several fields of law interest me. However, since it is just the beginning, I unfortunately have neither much knowledge nor sufficient exposure to decide what field I want to specialise in. However, I hope this will change over the course of time. Just after completing my first internship, I have gained a fair amount of knowledge about court practice and the kind of work advocates do. As time passes, I believe attending more conferences, orientation programmes, workshops and most importantly, internships will help me decide on the next step of my legal career.
