As per the NPAT exam pattern, a total of 120 questions are asked from three exam sections collectively. Each section of NMAT exam has identIcal question weightage. The sections for NPAT exam with the number of questions are as follows:

• Verbal Reasoning: 40
• Logical Reasoning: 40
• Quantitative Reasoning: 40

Candidates need to answer all the questions within 100 minutes. The 100 minute time-frame of NPAT exam is not divided into sectional time frames. Questions under the NPAT exam sections can be answered without any boundation of navigation.

As per the NPAT exam pattern, the exam has three sections compiling 120 questions. The total duration to answer all these 120 MCQs is 100 minutes. It is up to the test-taker to decide how much time he/she should allocate to each section. Since there is no pre-defined sectional time limit, candidates can navigate across questions as well as sections.

Although there is no sectional time limit, candidates must not forget that the weightage of questions and marks in each section is similar. Therefore, all three sections hold equal importance. It is critical to allocate time to each section based on the candidate's individual comfort and preparation. Candidates must keep the total time duration of the exam in mind and the time they need to answer questions from the next section. The time allocation towards one section must be based on the exam day strategy.

In this section of NPAT exam, test takers need to recognise grammatical structure and usage, use prepositions, determiners, connectives, tenses appropriately. Grasping the meaning of underlined words in sentences, using appropriate words in given context, put ideas into logical sequences by putting the jumbled sentences in the correct order. In order to solve questions from the reading comprehension section, it is important for the test takers to locate information, grasp ideas, identify and interpret relationships and ideas, moods, characteristics, tone of the passage, infer, get the central theme and evaluate given passage.

General English section of NPAT exam does not require rigorous preparation if the candidate have good hold on English Proficiency. The books that will help the candidate to prepare for NPAT General English section include:

In this section candidates must prepare these topics as they carry most weightage:

• Error Recognition
• Applied Grammar
• Contextual Usage
• Sequencing of Ideas
• Reading Comprehension (Passages of 400-500 words with five questions per passage)

Other than solving various kinds of problems, memorising formulas and learning tricks for Quantitative and Numerical Ability, test takers should start solving riddles, sudoku and puzzles to strengthen quantitative skills for NPAT exam. The sole trick to excel in the quantitative ability section of NPAT exam is to practice. Candidates must ensure solving as many mock tests and practice question papers as possible. This will make sure that the candidates know about different types of questions asked and the difficulty level. Additionally, practising improves the speed and accuracy while taking the NPAT exam.

Quantitative Reasoning, also known as Quantitative Ability (QA), includes the questions to test candidate's Mathematical Skills. The section comprises questions from Number Systems, Trigonometry, Arithmetic, Algebra, Sets & Functions, among other sub-sections. Candidates preparing for basic mathematical skills based on elementary mathematical concepts can easily crack the techniques to answer questions from this section. Candidate's are gauged based on their ability to reason quantitatively and solve problems with quantitative methods.

SVKMs NMIMS assesses critical thinking and analytical skills using the Reasoning and General Intelligence section of NPAT Exam. In this section of NPAT exam, in order to solve questions that are based on critical thinking, test takers should try to analyse the roles and conditions and based on it, solve the questions. For questions related to problem-solving, try to analyse the information and assimilate them in a suitable form to answer those questions. Candidates must practise as many questions as possible to get aware of different types of questions.

The Reasoning and General Intelligence section of NPAT exam primarily examines candidate's critical and analytical thinking abilities. To get a good hold on this section, it is critical to understand all the concepts and to practice different types of questions regularly. In the previous sessions of NMIMS NPAT exam, there was a section for General Knowledge. Candidates had toi answer questions from static GK as well as current affairs. However, SVKMs NMIMS do not have questions from GK section after 2020 exam session. The three core sections of NPAT exam are

• Verbal Reasoning: This section includes questions to test English Proficiency of the candidate.
• Logical Reasoning: This section includes questions to measure the ability or aptitude to reason logically.
• Quantitative Reasoning: This section includes questions to gauge the basic mathematical skills of the candidate.

NPAT exam does not include questions from GK or current affairs.

NMIMS does not release the NPAT syllabus in detail. However, the official admission handout for NPAT exam indicates the sections from where the questions are framed in the exam. Additionally, the NPAT admission handout mentions the difficulty level of the NPAT exam is similar to the SAT exam. Candidates can refer to the SAT exam syllabus for all three sections to prepare for the NPAT exam.
