Asutosh College in a nutshell.

Placements: There are a total of 62 students in our batch. In the Zoology Honors course from our college, there is not much placement offered but there are a few companies that may want to recruit us after completing our Masters. I was absolutely dissatisfied with the placement faculty.

Infrastructure: The building is under construction and work is going on to improve the conditions. The laboratories are big and airy and the library is very organized. The food available in the canteen is tasty and cheap. The classrooms have many fans and they are very airy.

Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and are always ready to solve our doubts. They are highly qualified and following them in class can help the students achieve good marks in the semester. Out of 75 theory marks, 23 are pass marks. The semester exams are a little bit difficult but they can be cleared if students listen to the class properly.

Other: I have always liked biology since I was in school so I opted for this course for my higher education. There are numerous fests and events that take place all throughout the year.

Review of Asutosh College.

Placements: None of the students was placed from our course. Salary packages were not offered in our course. None of the students got internships from our course. Placements or internships are not included in our course, and thus there are no recruiting companies.

Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure available in our department are huge classrooms with very high ceilings, well-lit classrooms with proper sitting arrangements, projectors and microphones. Both white and blackboards are used according to the requirements. There are huge labs with proper working instruments, and labs have a huge collection of specimens in their museum. Labs are well lit, and there is a proper drainage system. Wi-Fi is available here, but it is not very strong. Our college has a central library where you have to be lucky to get a book of your need. However, the department has a seminar library where you can borrow books from professors. Along with that, an E-library is also available, which you can access from anywhere after collecting the password. Our college's 2nd campus has a huge hostel. Our college canteen has below average quality food. Medical facilities are available in the common room in case of emergencies. Annual sports and games are always conducted over the year such as cricket league, football league, badminton championship, annual sports, etc.

Faculty: Professors in our department treat their students as family members, and they are super helpful and very good at their job. They are highly qualified, and they not only professed us but also guided us in the right direction. This course curriculum is relevant, and it is a very classic stream. It does not make students industry-ready but makes them ready for higher studies and research purposes. If the lectures and classes are sincerely followed, semester exams are not really difficult. The pass percentage is about 25%.

Other: I chose this course because I liked this subject and was not interested in other subjects. This course is easy to grasp and its practicals, excursion field and experience are the best things. If our college made us industry ready and had some placement opportunities, it would be better. Our college is super eventful. An annual fest used to be organised in the month of September. The campus is spread over a huge area and is well connected. Our college is beside the main road and also adjacent to a metro station. Many extracurricular activities and opportunities are available here. Many scholarships are also available here.

Asutosh College — A blend of balanced academic and social life.

Placements: Placement in Asutosh College is not course-specific. Rather collective. Placement drive takes place once or twice a year, but they are not subject-specific. Student from any department may apply and, if selected can continue their work. The placement percentage and average package are too low.

Infrastructure: Labs and classrooms are good but equipment can be upgraded (they were when we were about to complete the semester). Wi-Fi is not available. The library is well equipped with books. You need library cards to issue the books and can avail of library facilities during college hours. Hostel seats are limited. Since students enrolled are much higher in numbers than the seats. The canteen can be much better. (Though you can be in the canteen for fun).

Other: I love zoology, I got to learn about the anatomy, and morphology of animals and visualize their features. Learn about their role in the environment. Everything about the course is fine. Lab experience was excellent for dissection, still, equipment-wise it can be upgraded. Events occur throughout the year. Freshers, farewells, film promotion, annual sports, film festival, street play, winter event, competition, scholarship-specific seminars. The crowd is diverse, and the language is english and Bengali mix easy to adapt. Connectivity is outstanding.

It is a college which moulds students into a mature and socially active person.

Placements: Placements will not be there for our course. It is mainly a general degree college, so it is very unexpected to have placements. But because of its location advantage students, after doing Zoology Hons generally, go for master degree or prepare for a government job. Now most of them are doing the job in academics, banks or other government sectors.

Infrastructure: Our labs are well maintained, and classrooms are average. No Wi-Fi facility was available for students at my time. The library is really good. The hostel was not good at all and had very less capacity. Canteen is there, but most of the students prefer to eat from shops just outside of the college gate. College lacks open space, and for sports, a clubhouse is there in maidan area.

Faculty: At our time, teachers are helpful, highly qualified, but after that, lots of senior faculty members retire from the job. During our second year, one good faculty was transferred to Presidency University. Now there is a mix of senior and junior faculty. Teaching quality of faculty members was not uniform, some teachers were great, while someone was below average. The course curriculum is very much relevant. But industry-ready part is not applicable for this course.

Other: I have chosen Zoology Hons because of my affection towards living objects. In our college Zoology departments is one of the best department in Kolkata. The best things about zoology course are its field trip, practical courses, diversity and future scope. They should improve a little bit more exposure to practical courses and up-gradation in the curriculum may help students a lot. The student union organises many events. Connectivity and campus location is awesome.

Really good infrastructure and faculty members have well-behaviour to communicate with students.

Placements: Currently, I am studying, but I got 2 jobs in private sector banking. Asutosh College has its self-placement cell which is too good and successfully placed many students. Fisheries vocational course is quite good and management study also whose placement is so nice.

Infrastructure: It has lab-based courses in the subjects of physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, microbiology, biochemistry, fisheries, industrial chemistry, geography, computer science etc. The lab facility is good. Wi-Fi is enabled on the campus. Canteen, cafeteria and library attract with its self-infrastructure.

Faculty: All branches of general degrees are available here, I.e. science, humanities, commerce, computer technology, software skills, management studies, and postgraduation courses are also available. On the other hand, Asutosh College provides extra facility to the poor students for government job exam courses.

Candidates who has passed the 10+2 or its equivalent examination is eligible to apply provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. No candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Study after passing the previous qualifying examination. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education /Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks.
