Cotton University in Guwahati has a good placement record. According to the NIRF report 2023, 13 UG and 95 PG students were placed during the placements. The median package offered to UG (3-year) students during placements 2023 stood at INR 5.34 LPA. For PG (2-year) and PG (3-year) courses, the median package offered during Cotton University placements 2023 was INR 3.62 LPA and INR 3.80 LPA, respectively. The university has a placement cell that organizes various activities to prepare students for placements, and around 50-60% of students got placed in various courses.

Cotton University offers various UG, PG and PhD courses, such as BSc, BA, BCA, MCA, MSC and MA. Admission to all the courses is entrance-based. The university accepts CUR-UG for admission to UG courses and conducts a university-based entrance exam i.e. CPGEE for admission to PG courses. Applicants seeking admission to any of these courses must appear in the entrance exam and score well to grab the final seat.

Cotton University application process varies for UG, PG, and PhD programmes. Candidates need to apply through the university website, and Assam State Admission Portal for PG and UG programmes respectively. Eligible candidates must visit the official website of the university and click on the Applicant's Login given under different programmes, such as PhD, UG, PG, and HSC, and fill out the application form and pay the application fee.

Admission t Cotton University is offered based on Class 12 aggregate of 50% to 60%  for UG level admissions. Whereas, for PG level admissions, candidates must secure a minimum aggregate of 50% in graduation. In addition to this, candidates must secure valid scores in accepted entrance exams. Considering 85% aggregate in Class 12 or graduation, candidates can successfully qualify the primary selection round. 

As a Higher Education institution, Cotton College has gone through several milestones from the initial phase of being under Calcutta University to the present when it is one of the full-fledged autonomous state universities of Assam. It is a Public State University established in 1901 by Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, the Chief Commissioner of the erstwhile British province of Assam.

It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an Act enacted by Assam Legislative Assembly to merge the Cotton College State University and Cotton College.

Candidates who complete the Cotton University admission process are eligible to pay the course fee. Students can opt for both offline and online mode of payment. The tuition fee for Cotton University courses ranges from INR 3.6K- 1.33 Lacs based on the course selected by the students. The University offers respective courses for duration varying from 2 years to 4 years.
