    Q:   What is the highest package at IIT Madras?
    A: 

    IIT Madras overall highest package data is not released. The best placement was observed in BTech CS branch with average package of INR 53.2 LPA.

    During MBA and Tech MBA placements 2025, the highest package offered was 35.5 LPA and 81 LPA.

    A: 

    Identified as an 'Institute of Eminence', the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras or IITM) was established in 1959 as a public technical and research university. It is the third IIT to be set up by the Government of India and is autonomous in nature. The institute recently launched the country's first online BSc Programme in Programming in Data Science. IITM is also known for its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP),  which is sponsored by the AICTE  (All India Council for Technical Education). 

    Q:   Which is the biggest festival of IIT Madras?

    IIT Madras conducts an annual fest called Shaastra. It is an annual technical festival organised to celebrate unconstrained thinking and love for the spirit of engineering.

    Another cultural festival organised by IIT Madras is Saarang, It is the largest cultural fest in India held every year in the month of January.

    Q:   How can I get admission in IIT Madras?
    A: 

    To seek admission to the BTech programme offered at IIT Madras, candidates need to visit the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and fill out the application form in online mode for JEE Main. For other courses such as MSc, MTech, BS-MS (Dual Degree) etc., candidates must visit the official website of the respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill out the application form in online mode. IIT Madras admission to most of the courses is entrance-based. 

    Q:   How much GATE score is required for IIT Madras?
    A: 

    Candidates seeking for admission to M.Tech at IIT Madras, candidates must pass graduation with minimum 60% aggregate as the minimum eligibility criteria for General category candidtaes.

    In addition to this, candidates must also qualify GATE exam with a valid score. The cutoff may fluctuate every year, as it depends upon multiple factors. As per witnessing the last three years' closing cutoff for M.Tech course at IIT Madras, the highest closing ranks have been between 500 to 800 made for all top specialisations.

    Yes, there are many other courses for which the selection criteria are different and the prescribed entrance exam is also other than JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Below are some of the courses offered at IIT Madras along with their eligibility criteria and entrance exam:

    • MTech: IIT Madras offers a two-year full-time M.Tech programme across various specialisations. The institute inducts candidates for the M.Tech programmes based on valid GATE scores followed by the counselling process.
    • MBA: For admission to the full-time two year MBA programme at IIT Madras, candidates are required to appear for the CAT exam. Candidates based on their CAT scores will be shortlisted for the Group Discussion & Personal Interview (PI) round.
    • MSc: IIT Madras accepts admission to the MSc programme based on a valid score/ rank in the IIT-JAM exam.

    The IIT Madras placement procedure is explained in the table below:

    Attendance and PunctualityA student who applies and gets shortlisted for interviews has to go through the entire selection process unless rejected midway by the company.
    Any student who withdraws deliberately in the middle of a selection process will be disallowed from placement for the rest of the academic year.
    Latecomers for GD/ Aptitude Test/ Interview will not be allowed to appear for the selection process.
    DisciplineStudents should maintain discipline and show ethical behaviour during the entire placement process.
    Students found cheating or misbehaving in the selection process (Test/ GD/ Interview) will be disallowed to appear for placements in the entire academic year.

    hi,

    No—if you scored 44 when the cutoff is 45 in JEE Main, you would not qualify for JEE Advanced. Without qualifying JEE Advanced, admission to Indian Institute of Technology Madras is not possible, since IITs admit students only through that route.

    With a 98.5 percentile in JEE Main, you have a strong chance of getting into good NITs, but admission to National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli depends on your category, home state quota, branch preference, and yearly cutoff trends.
