IIT Madras BSc Eligibility & Highlights 2025
BSc at IIT Madras is a four-year, full-time programme offered at the undergraduate level. Some of the specialisations offered are BSc in Medical Sciences and Engineering, BSc in Biological Science, BSc in Electronic Systems, etc. Apart from the full-time BSc programme, IIT Madras also offers the five-year, integrated BSc + MSc programme.
IIT Madras BSc admission is entirely entrance-based on the rank and scores obtained by candidates in the JEE Main and accepts the scores of the IISER Aptitude Test for admission to the dual degree BS plus MS programme. Candidates seeking admission to the BS programme are required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned below:

IIT Madras BSc course admission is entirely entrance-based for the academic year 2025. Candidates seeking admission to the programme are required to go through the multiple-step process which includes the application process, selection round, cutoff, merit list and, counselling. Given below is the detailed IIT Madras BSc admission process:
STEP 1: IIT Madras BSc Application Process
Candidates seeking admission to the BS degree in IIT Madras are required to fill out the application form for the entrance exams. Candidates seeking admission to the regular BSc programme are required to fill out the JEE Main application form and candidates who wish to take admission to the dual degree BSc + MSc programme are required to fill out the IISER Aptitude Test application form.

STEP 2: IIT Madras BSc Selection Process
Admission to the BSc programme is offered in two modes, either via Regular entry or through an entrance exam.
- Admission via regular entry*:
- Qualifier Preparation: The qualifier process includes four weeks of coursework based on lecture videos, assignments, and live sessions of the four foundational level courses - English I, Mathematics for Data Science I, Statistics for Data Science I, and Computational Thinking - that will be provided through our online portal. Every week an assignment must be submitted for grading in each course.
- Qualifier Exam: At the end of the four weeks, a qualifier exam will be conducted for eligible candidates based on the content covered in the four weeks of study.
- Admission via entrance exam:
Candidates must qualify and submit the score of current year JEE to get direct admission.
STEP 3: IIT Madras BSc Counselling & Admission Confirmation
Based on the performance of candidates in the entrance examination, the institute declares the merit list and the shortlisted candidates are called to appear for the counselling process for seat allotment. The final step of IIT Madras admission is to pay the IIT Madras BSc fees as mentioned below:

IIT Madras BSc Placements
According to media reports, 1,091 students were placed in phase I and phase II of 2023-24 placements. More than 80% of BTech/ Dual Degree and 75% of Master degree students were placed till April 30, 2024. In addition to this, out of 300 PPOs offered 235 were accepted. The total count of participating companies stood at 256. Furthermore, 44 international offers were made. The IIT Madras average package and median package for the 2024 batch stood at INR 22 LPA and INR 19.60 LPA, respectively. The majority of students (40%) placed during IIT Madras placements 2024 received job roles in the Core sector, followed by 20% offers in the Software sector. As per the media reports, IIT Madras has modified the BTech curriculum to accommodate internships for 6 months duration.
Earlier, the 2023 placement drive concluded with 1,612 offers from more than 480 companies. The highest package offered to BTech and MTech students during IIT Madras placements in 2023 stood at INR 1.31 crore per annum and INR 54.21 LPA, respectively. The median package offered to MS (Engineering Streams) and MSc (Science Stream) was INR 15 LPA and INR 9.62 LPA, respectively. Further, the IIT Madras highest package recorded for MA and MBA during placements 2023 was INR 26.57 LPA and INR 30.66 LPA, respectively. Moreover, the highest package offered to PhD students was INR 35.89 LPA. The top recruiters of placements 2023 were Amazon, Bajaj Auto Limited, EY India, Reliance, TCS, etc.

Since clearing JEE Advanced is mandatory for IIT admission, on the basis of JEE Main score of 56.77 percentile, you likely did not cross the ST category qualifying cutoff to appear for JEE Advance
