Candidates must complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a minimum of 75% aggregate to apply for BTech programme at IIT Patna. Aspirants also need to pass JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced to get a seat in the BTech course.

The 2026 JEE Mains deadline for IIT Patna BTech admissions was scheduled on November 27th 2025. The JEE Mains is conducted twice in one academic year. For the second session, the JEE Mains deadline has not been revealed yet. 

Candidates can expect the IIT Patna BTech deadline to be scheduled in the month of March. The JEE Mains registerations are expected to begin soon.

However, students must select a branch depending on their interest.

In general, students admitted to the particular branch of the undergraduate BTech course must continue studying that branch till completion. However, in special cases the institute may permit a student admitted through JEE to change their branch of study after the first two semesters. Such changes are permitted only for students who have completed all the common credits required in the first two semesters of their studies, in their first attempt, without having had to pass any course requirement in the summer term examination.

The flagship course of IIT Patna is BTech. The four year BTech programme is offered in 11 specialisations. Admission to all BTech courses is subject to a valid score in JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Students also need to go through the counselling process conducted by JoSAA for final seat allotment.
