- Sharp ability to analyse things, situations, contexts and to map the situation
- Sharp ability to identify the constituent elements of a given thing or a situation and an overall assessment of the same (internalisation)
- Sharp ability to synthesise, i.e., having an ability to interpret, plan and evolve directions or strategies to address any given situation or set of issues (attitude towards problem solving)
- Ability to keenly observe any given thing or situation (keenness of perception). This goes beyond just "looking" at a thing, rather than more of "seeing"
- Ability to relevantly classify and categorise information which is being rolled out and thereby to find connections, relationships to draw rational inferences("pattern seeking")
- Ability to "learn" as opposed to bookish knowledge. Capacity for learnability by being mentally agile and flexible (learning to learn)
- From the above, the capacity to generate knowledge and its application
- Ability to handle different materials and media, which may or may not be familiar

The MITID DAT 2026 written exam was conducted on April 5, 2026. The question paper inlcuded both subjective and objective questions. The written exam is the 1st stage of the entrance exam and is used to shortlist candidates for a Studio Test & Personal Interview. The final results of MITID DAT is prepared by considering the perfomance of the candidate in the written exam and the Studio Test & Personal Interview. Any candidate who fails to appear in the 2nd stage of the exam will not be included in the merit list.
Candidates are shortlisted for the Studio Test and Personal Interview based on their performance in the MIT DAT entrance test. The Studio Test and Personal Interview is the 2nd stage of the two-stage MITID DAT admission process. The 1st stage is the online written exam.

MITID DAT exam is conducted in both online and offline modes. Phase 1 of MITID DAT is held in online mode as a computer-based test and Phase-2 of the exam is to be attempted on a sheet provided inside the exam hall.
The candidate has to follow the official pattern when preparing for the exam. This will imrpove their chances of doing well in MITID DAT.
The Studio Test and Personal Interview for the M.Des programs will be conducted in the third week of May 2026. Candidates who have qualified in the written exams are eligible to appear in the Studio Test.

DAT examination includes computer-based MCQ (objective) test, subjective test and offline drawing test. Objective and Descriptive Test is a Computer Based Test. Where in Objective Test candidates have to choose the correct option, in Descriptive Test they have to write the correct answer in the text box. Drawing Exam is an Offline Test. For this section candidates are provided A4 size drawing sheets to draw using Pens / Pencils / Colours etc. After the exam is over, the answer sheets are collected, scanned and uploaded for evaluation at the test centre.
MITID DAT 2026 eligibility criteria for B.Des and M.Des is given below.
For B.Des programme, candidates should have passed Class 12 from any stream and for MDes programme, candidates should hold an undergraduate degree.
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the programs they want admission. Note that any candidate who doesn't meet the eligibility criteria could be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.
The admission to design courses will be based on the final merit list which will be prepared by considering the peformance of the candidate in:

It is mandatory for candidates to appear in all the stages of the entrance exam. If the candidate misses out on any stage, he or she will be disqualified.
