B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2026

It's a good college for a mechanical engineer, like myself.
Placements: Currently, 50% of my batch is placed. The lowest is 7 LPA and the highest is 18.5 LPA. The top recruiting companies were ZS and ABG. Many students got internships from our batch in companies like Bajaj, Tata, etc. As a quality inspector for a manufacturing unit. Overall, for campus placement, the college is good.
Infrastructure: Typical government hostel, gets cleaned every day. LAN connection is available for all the students. The mess food is average, like you can survive on the food, except on Sunday night. A health centre is available on campus itself, and an ambulance is also available. Good enthusiasm for sports also.
Faculty: Teachers are mostly Ph.Ds in their own domain. They have vast knowledge in their respective field. Teaching is good and understandable. The course book is provided early, and the course content taught is already informed to students. College exams are set by professors only, so they are mostly based on the syllabus.
Other: I have an interest in mechanical engineering, particularly in the automobile section, like car manufacturing and research & development. Professors are already qualified, and they mostly share their respective industrial reviews for students, which is nice. Events are held every 2 months or so. The campus crowd is normal, and the campus location is in the middle of the city.

Overall a decent experience with good opportunities.
Placements: The placements here are somewhat decent. I would not say they are that great as compared to the circuit L branches but they are good. Around 75-80 percent of people get placed. Average package is around 10 LPA. The lowest being offered is like 5 LPA - 6 LPA, depending on the year you are seeing. Top recruiting companies include Vedanta, etc. For us, 3 vocational training is compulsory which is provided by the college itself its very helpful for you to get placed in the company.
Infrastructure: The facilities provided here are good. For example, you get a Wi-Fi-enabled classroom with the projectors and everything. Hostel facilities are also good. You get a 3 people-sharing room in the first year. The mess food is good and hygienic. You can definitely eat it. There is also a health center that gives you all the required medicine when necessary. The colleges' focus on sports and games is too good like for first year. They have a thing called intramurals in which we compete against each other, and participation in it is compulsory. Grounds are decent for each sport.
Faculty: Even though it's an NIT, I won't say all the professors are that good. Some are really knowledgeable and think about the students. They will guide you, but there are teachers who don't give a damn about what you do. They just come into the class and try to explain, even though no one gets them, what they are trying to say about the mid-term exams. So, they are actually not that hard, don't rely on the teachers, study on your own. The passing percentage is around 80 percent. The college follows the new education policy.
Other: The reason I chose this course was not because of any interest, it was the rank that determined your course. It is a pretty decent course. About the college connectivity, like it's in the middle of the city, Nagpur, with a lush green campus. You will get easy access to railways and airports. The fests here are decent as of now which I have experienced. The main fests of the college are about to happen so I will update after seeing those fests. There are scholarships too for academic excellence only as per my knowledge.

VNIT Nagpur- the man, the myth, the legend.
Placements: The percentage of students placed is overall 86%, while in our branch it is 93%. The highest package is 64 LPA offered by Oracle to 9 students. The lowest package is 6 LPA. The average package is 17 LPA. The top companies recruiting are Oracle, Google, DE Shaw, and JP Morgan. About 60% of students receive internships. The top roles offered are SDE and data analyst.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure here is quite decent. There are old buildings dating back to 1980, and also newer buildings. Wi-Fi is available across the campus, except at hostels, where we have a LAN with good speed. There is a well-equipped international-level library. We have three messes. The food is above expectations, but is repetitive. It has one of the best sports facilities among all NITs.
Faculty: Faculty members here are well qualified, usually Ph.D. holders and Ph.D. scholars. They are highly qualified and good. The curriculum, like other NITs and IITs, is outdated and not relevant in this era. The exams are mid, mildly difficult except for some exams such as EE and M1.

You had to qualify JEE to get into this.
Placements: The placements were good for circuit branches like CSE, ECE, EEE, and Mechanical as well. For other departments, placements were decent. Typically, students in the 5th and 6th semesters had opportunities to apply for on-campus internships, while those in the 7th and 8th semesters applied for placements. Companies like Google, Oracle, Goldman Sachs, Hilti, Wells Fargo, DE Shaw, NatWest, ZS Associates, John Deere, UBS, Reliance, Samsung, and others visited the campus. The highest package offered was 36 LPA. The average was 11 LPA. More than 80% of students were placed.
Infrastructure: Hostel rooms were very good. Facilities included a fan, two closets, a table, and a bed with a chair. The mess food was not up to the mark, and we had to adjust to it. A mess form had to be submitted. Rooms were allotted based on a lucky dip. Many books were available in the library, so there was no need to buy books from outside. Classrooms had ACs, LCDs, projector screens, and many other facilities. There was a very large ground with different sports facilities. We also had the Institute Gathering (IG), which lasted for 10 days, where all departments competed in different sports.
Faculty: Faculty members were really experienced and talented. But most failed to deliver the same knowledge to students. Most teachers had a vast knowledge bank, but were not the best at teaching. There were two exams, namely midterms and end-of-term terms, carrying 30 and 50 marks respectively. The course was slightly old in terms of content, but updates were being made that were branch-specific, such as more detailed electronics in the electrical lab, including diodes and other relevant experiments.

Solid mechanical engineering experience at VNIT Nagpur.
Placements: The batch 2024 mechanical batch. Ni vnit, placements are strong, 90% placed. The package is 31LPA, the average package offered is 9LPA, and the lowest package offered is 5LPA. Top recruiters include HPCL, Maruti Suzuki, BPCL, Aditya Birla, and John Deere. Roles are mainly GET, design, projects, and quality engineer. Internships are too good, especially for 7+ CGPA students.
Infrastructure: VNIT has solid labs, a huge digital library, and a good sports infrastructure. Classrooms are basic, no AC, and hostels improve as you go from shared to single rooms with LAN connections. Mess food is average, Sports /Medical are excellent, and campus life is vibrant.
Faculty: Mechanical depth at the VNI solid faculty is qualified, and some are from there, though teaching quality varies. The curriculum is strong, with labs, projects, and industry visits making you job ready in core fields. Exams are moderate, regular study is enough to clear overall good fundamentals, but you need self effort for extra skills like coding.
Other: I am from the mechanical engineering branch, with 115 students per batch. The course is four years, covering all core areas like thermodynamics, design, and manufacturing, with solid lab exposure. Placements are strong if you have maintained a 7.5 CGPA. Chances of getting placed are almost certain, the highest packages go to top performers, and even average is decent for a core branch. I chose mechanical because I like machines and wanted a balanced theory and practical, and Vnit offers exactly that. Still, the syllabus feels a bit outdated. Classroom and Wi-fi could improve, and the mess food is just average.

The view of VNIT college from the eyes of a sophomore.
Placements: For mechanical engineering branch in the year 2024-2025, a placement percentage of 95+ was achieved, with the highest package being given by BPCL. The average and median were about 11.6 LPA and 10.8 LPA, respectively. The college has a reputation for having a higher placement percentage for mechanical students, even when compared to CSE from the last 2 years.
Infrastructure: There is very good infrastructure in the college for most of the programs, specifically for mechanical, there is a Siemens centre of excellence in which VNIT students can take part in certification courses in labs like product design and validation, test and optimization, reverse engineering, and many more. The mechanical engineering department has one smart classroom and many other classes. The only thing to complain about in the hostels is the food.
Faculty: The teachers from the department of Mechanical Engineering are very senior and very qualified. Everyone has a huge pool of knowledge that they are ready to share with the students. The course is evolving and becoming more industry-ready with each integration, like the involvement of CADM as a course to give opportunities to those who wish to get into design-related fields. The exams are not really difficult, but they are not graded leniently.
