B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2029
4.2
Dissatisfied with campus life.
Placements: The good thing about VNIT is placement. We will get good placements even at a low CGPA. The highest package will be around 64 LPA, and when it comes to the lowest, it may be around 4 LPA. Mahindra, Tata, BHPL, PSU, etc. The students with a CGPA of around 8.5 will get internships easily. Design and Manufacturing is the top role offered in Mechanical Engineering.
Infrastructure: We will get the best Wi-Fi, good labs, good classrooms, and the best library. We will get 24/7 Wi-Fi through LAN. The food is average. We have one healthcare center, which is good. We have an ambulance for emergencies too. There will be a lot of sports to participate in and practice.
Faculty: Every teacher is highly qualified, but not everyone puts in the effort to teach. We will have all the books in the library. The course curriculum is nice, and it is relevant to the present situation. The question papers will be difficult, and the pass percentage depends on relative performance, similar to that of JEE.

An institute of national importance for a reason.
Placements: 88% of students were placed in B.Tech in mechanical engineering. The highest package was around 20 LPA, and the average package for mechanical was around 12 LPA. Top recruiting companies are TATA Motors, Siemens, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra, etc. These offer top roles such as design engineer, data analyst, management training, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure available for mechanical engineering is well above average, and all facilities have been provided. The quality of food is decent, and the food tastes delicious and healthy. The facilities for sports and games are more than enough. Everything is available and well maintained. Many tournaments occur frequently, which keep the people engaged in sports.
Faculty: All the teachers are helpful. The minimum qualification of the teachers in VNIT Nagpur is at least a Ph.D., which gives students the opportunity to learn from brilliant professors. The examinations at VNIT are quite challenging, and the quality of questions in the examination is decent.

3.8
Solid mechanical engineering experience at VNIT Nagpur.
Placements: The batch 2024 mechanical batch. Ni vnit, placements are strong, 90% placed. The package is 31LPA, the average package offered is 9LPA, and the lowest package offered is 5LPA. Top recruiters include HPCL, Maruti Suzuki, BPCL, Aditya Birla, and John Deere. Roles are mainly GET, design, projects, and quality engineer. Internships are too good, especially for 7+ CGPA students.
Infrastructure: VNIT has solid labs, a huge digital library, and a good sports infrastructure. Classrooms are basic, no AC, and hostels improve as you go from shared to single rooms with LAN connections. Mess food is average, Sports /Medical are excellent, and campus life is vibrant.
Faculty: Mechanical depth at the VNI solid faculty is qualified, and some are from there, though teaching quality varies. The curriculum is strong, with labs, projects, and industry visits making you job ready in core fields. Exams are moderate, regular study is enough to clear overall good fundamentals, but you need self effort for extra skills like coding.
Other: I am from the mechanical engineering branch, with 115 students per batch. The course is four years, covering all core areas like thermodynamics, design, and manufacturing, with solid lab exposure. Placements are strong if you have maintained a 7.5 CGPA. Chances of getting placed are almost certain, the highest packages go to top performers, and even average is decent for a core branch. I chose mechanical because I like machines and wanted a balanced theory and practical, and Vnit offers exactly that. Still, the syllabus feels a bit outdated. Classroom and Wi-fi could improve, and the mess food is just average.

The view of VNIT college from the eyes of a sophomore.
Placements: For mechanical engineering branch in the year 2024-2025, a placement percentage of 95+ was achieved, with the highest package being given by BPCL. The average and median were about 11.6 LPA and 10.8 LPA, respectively. The college has a reputation for having a higher placement percentage for mechanical students, even when compared to CSE from the last 2 years.
Infrastructure: There is very good infrastructure in the college for most of the programs, specifically for mechanical, there is a Siemens centre of excellence in which VNIT students can take part in certification courses in labs like product design and validation, test and optimization, reverse engineering, and many more. The mechanical engineering department has one smart classroom and many other classes. The only thing to complain about in the hostels is the food.
Faculty: The teachers from the department of Mechanical Engineering are very senior and very qualified. Everyone has a huge pool of knowledge that they are ready to share with the students. The course is evolving and becoming more industry-ready with each integration, like the involvement of CADM as a course to give opportunities to those who wish to get into design-related fields. The exams are not really difficult, but they are not graded leniently.

I am satisfied with the opportunities the college gives to students.
Placements: As of March 2025, 72% of students are placed in the Mechanical Engineering (B.Tech) department. The top recruiting companies are HPCL, Jindal Stainless, Maruti Suzuki, BPCL, and Aditya Birla Group. Students got PPOs from Accenture, Neterwala Group, ITC Limited, and John Deere.
Infrastructure: A continuous LAN network is available in hostel rooms. The library is well-equipped with many books. Hostels are cleaned daily and hygiene is maintained. The food quality in the mess is decent. Medical services provided are very good and free of cost. Sports complex is also robust with so many sports equipment.
Faculty: All the teachers here are PhD graduates and helpful. Teaching quality is good. The course curriculum is updated and relevant. We have lab sessions for every theory course. Semester exams are very hard here and require continuous study. Exams can't be passed by studying one night before. The overall passing rate is almost 98.6%.

It's a good college for a mechanical engineer, like myself.
Placements: Currently, 50% of my batch is placed. The lowest is 7 LPA and the highest is 18.5 LPA. The top recruiting companies were ZS and ABG. Many students got internships from our batch in companies like Bajaj, Tata, etc. As a quality inspector for a manufacturing unit. Overall, for campus placement, the college is good.
Infrastructure: Typical government hostel, gets cleaned every day. LAN connection is available for all the students. The mess food is average, like you can survive on the food, except on Sunday night. A health centre is available on campus itself, and an ambulance is also available. Good enthusiasm for sports also.
Faculty: Teachers are mostly Ph.Ds in their own domain. They have vast knowledge in their respective field. Teaching is good and understandable. The course book is provided early, and the course content taught is already informed to students. College exams are set by professors only, so they are mostly based on the syllabus.
Other: I have an interest in mechanical engineering, particularly in the automobile section, like car manufacturing and research & development. Professors are already qualified, and they mostly share their respective industrial reviews for students, which is nice. Events are held every 2 months or so. The campus crowd is normal, and the campus location is in the middle of the city.

Norms and strictness are at their peak in 2026.
Placements: The placement and the cutoff for companies here are so lenient and as per my batch analysis, the placement goes 100% for the students or grades with a CGPA of 7.5 and above. The basic pay is the lowest package is 7 LPA for the nontechnical and core departments.
Infrastructure: The department of mechanical engineering is at the benchmarked cracking score out of all the departments as it was the first department of the college and the hostel facilities are typical of the South Indian style. Sports facilities are surplus in hostel facilities.
Faculty: Faculty members are very strict. Sometimes not coordinative enough if you have grudges or harsh talks. They solely have the power to either pass or fail the exam and the curriculum is flexible as we can opt for many OCs and HMs to complete the credit.
Other: The crowded surroundings of the campus give you immersion in the overall ambiance from every corner of the country.

Review of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology.
Placements: The campus placements are great. In 2024, the Mechanical branch gets almost 100% placements. Even this year, 50% of students in the Mechanical branch have been placed until now. The highest package offered is 64 LPA, the median is 12 LPA, and the average is 11 LPA. Almost all the renowned companies visit the institute. There is a training and placement cell in every department that helps with placements and internships. Overall, the institute has a great placement rate.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is really great. It is spread over 215 acres. We have department buildings, an admin block, a new academic building, a classroom complex, a sports complex, hostels, an auditorium, a library, etc. The campus is located in the centre of the city, Nagpur. In the first year, classes are held in the classroom complex, and from the second year onwards, they are held in the respective departments. All the major events are held in the auditorium. My favourite place is the sports complex because it provides access to all sports with quality equipment. Also, the library is really great.
Faculty: Faculty members varies from person to person. In my opinion, some faculty members are very good, some are moderate, and some do not teach much. The teaching method generally followed is writing on the blackboard and explaining in detail. The student-to-teacher ratio is around 20:1. My personal experience with most faculty members has been average, although with some, it has been very good. Overall, the professors are great because they help in every possible aspect.
Other: My overall campus life is going really well. The crowd at VNIT Nagpur is fantastic. Seniors are very supportive in every aspect possible. We also have student mentors under the student mentorship program. There are various clubs, and I am a part of the debating club. Octaves is the music club, Velocity is the car club, IV Labs focuses on robotics and coding, among other things. There are many events such as Axis Techfest, Aarohi Cultural Fest, Consortium (the annual event of E-cell), Institute Gathering, Department Gathering, Mech Days, Ganesh Chaturthi, and more.
