The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct the NIFT 2026 entrance exam in the first week of February (tentative). The exam will be administered in a center-based mode. The CAT paper will be held offline, while the GAT will be a computer-based test. The candidate is urged to carefully go through the NIFT 2026 exam pattern to understand the question paper structure, including the types of questions asked, the marking scheme, test duration, etc. The NIFT 2026 syllabus, meanwhile, will include the topics that candidates need to prepare for the exam.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is among the most prestigious institutes in the country that cater to fashion education. It is the biggest brand in India which creates cutting-edge fashion designers for the industry. It offers various courses in design management and technology. It aims at delivering the fashion industry with candidates who have a zeal to do something creative.

19 institutes will participate in the NIFT 2026 entrance exam.

NIFT offers four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) courses in accessory design, fashion communication, fashion design, knitwear design, leather design, and textile design; Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) in apparel production. It also provides two-year courses in Master of Design (M.Des.); Master of Fashion Management (MFT); and Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech).

Admissions: Gateway to NIFT

Through the written test, you can take admissions to NIFT; in this written test, candidates will be tested based on facets of skill, aptitude, and knowledge of the opted program.

In general, it is a 4-way process, and a candidate will be assessed on various things:

  1. Situation Test: in this, you will be evaluated based on your performance in the psychometric test, group discussions, and interviews.
  2. General Ability Test (GAT): this part comprises of various sections such as quantitative ability, communication ability, English comprehension, analytical ability, and a business domain test -- where the candidate's knowledge and awareness is tested about the fashion industry, etc.
  3. Creative Ability Test: It will examine the skills of a candidate, power of observation, innovation, and design ability.

Several Master' program at the institute includes a psychometric test where candidates are tested in Task-Oriented Competencies and People Oriented Competencies. NIFT also offers diploma courses that range from one month to a year. Admission to these courses is based on a personal interview.

The fashion industry provides plenty of opportunities to budding candidates. India is a hub of fashion designers where you can have sheer variety and availability of materials- from conventional clothing to modern clothing and handlooms in vibrant weaves and dyes. A placement assistance facility is available for students who complete their graduation and post-graduation. Several leading companies conduct campus recruitment annually. Students are being placed in companies like Adidas, Calvin Klein, Black Berry, Pantaloon Group, Shahi Export House, Raymond, and Reebok.

Q:   Is it easy to crack DAT?
A: 

DAT entrance exam is considered to be moderate. IN NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. Thus, candidates need to be extremely creative and have a clear understanding of their concepts when appearing for the DAT.

But note that difficulty level can also be subjective, as it may also depend on your level of preparation. For instance, if you prepare well, you may be able to solve even the so-called difficult questions easily.

Guidance and Training for the Entrance Exam for NIFT:

  • Develop a Reading Habit: Read Fashion & Design Magazines, like Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, or Fashion Theory to stay updated on the latest trends in fashion and design. This will help in the General Knowledge and Communication Ability sections.
