Explore these options if the score is low in JEE Main
By: Shrikant Jha
Shrikant says with the name of the college, one should always research for their placement record and courses offered before getting admission in a college.
After the exams, every student wants to get admission in a good college. In this article, we will discuss the possible questions that come in the mind of the student for college admission after scoring less in JEE Main
Why college hunt is so important?
With low scores in the competitive exams, it becomes difficult for students to get admission in their desired college.
As most of the times, in the race of II, JEE students almost forget to apply for other colleges. This is not a wise decision. Every student should have a back-up plan.
Pre-requisites of College Hunt
Let’s assume that you have given all major and minor competitive exams. Also, your score is well above the cut-off.
- What we will talk about?
- IITs, NITs and some tier 2 private colleges
- Some decent government colleges with good placements
- Drop a year or not
Type of score and what you are getting
- Thorough research of all the colleges should be done to ensure that the best option is not missed.
1. In case a student is getting admission in any IIT which is less popular, then go ahead grab that opportunity as the tag of IIT has its benefits
-
-
- Also, a student could consider the best NIT College, if they are getting some low-rank IIT
-
2. Apply the same rule for NITs, i.e. if a student is getting a low-rank NIT then try to get admission in a good government college with best placement records
- Broaden the vision and college search:
1. Take help from seniors with good academic records
2. Always be in touch with the school faculty (recommended)
3. Research for the other options
Some colleges with good placement and academic records
| 6. Pune Institute of Computer Technology, Society for Computer Technology and Research |
Note: The college list given above is based on my research. Kindly do more rigorous research do not only rely on the list given above.
What if you are not even getting these colleges?
The students must be aware of their future preferences. In case, they do not get admission in any of the colleges (listed above), then they should have a back-up plan. This could be
- Want to go for UPSC preparation?
- Change in career for example if your parents were forcing you to do engineering?
- Anything else
Focus on the career and make a wise choice.
Still, want to go for better colleges?
- The students could consider dropping a year, however, this should be their last option. In my opinion, dropping a year is not wise for a student who is getting any of these colleges after research of placement, fees, the crowd of students, etc.
- In case, students are getting any of these colleges or similar with good placement record then they should not think twice to finalise
