Internships in Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology

3 mins readUpdated on Jun 21, 2022 17:05 IST
The duration of the internship program by KIIT is generally 30 days and the program fee may vary from INR 2,000 to INR 5,000 with a batch size of 30/40 students.

To clear the basics & strengthen the fundamentals of core subjects of Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Mechanical branches, the respective schools of KIIT, organise a short-term internship/ training program for all the interested & eligible students.

Particularly for all the IT branches, the companies start visiting the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology campus for recruitment after the end of the sixth semester only. Every year a good number of students from CSE & IT branches are able to get an offer for one or two months of internship in good companies either by themselves or with the help of a training & placement cell. And if your performance is extraordinary you may get a PPO (pre-placement offer) in the organisation you are pursuing your internship.

HighRadius takes a good number of students for internships from IT branches & generally the stipend is around INR 14,000. It totally depends on your knowledge and skill whether you are able to grab a paid opportunity or not. Most of the time the visiting company may have their own selection criteria. At the end of the second & third years, students are required to undergo a mandatory internship/training of one to two months in their respective fields. Since the number of students in IT branches is quite high it is advisable to start looking for internship opportunities on their own as soon as they receive a notification from the department. All the students are asked to present the internship report along with their learnings & proof, after the internship. Also, students are provided with an internship diary in which they need to record their daily activities at the site/office countersigned by their respective reporting managers.

What can get you an Internship?

  1. Try to maintain a good grade throughout the semesters (8.5+)
  2. You should have sound knowledge of at least one of the programming languages.
  3. Updated resume with project details.

It will be an added advantage if you are thorough with your major/minor projects and try to participate in extra-curricular activities as much as possible. Most of the time, one has to search for an internship opportunity on his/ her own.

At times it is observed that students don’t take their internship/training seriously. They are just bothered about getting a certificate, which is not a good practice. You will understand the importance of internships/ on-site training at the time of placements when the recruiters start asking questions about your stint as an intern. And when you are unable to answer the questions, it makes a negative impression on the interviewer.

To clear the basics & strengthen the fundamentals of core subjects of Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Mechanical branches, the respective schools organise a short-term internship/ training program for all the interested & eligible students.

Duration of Internships

The duration of the internship is generally 30 days and the program fee may vary from INR 2,000 to INR 5,000 with a batch size of 30/40 students. The best part of this internship is that it is open to the students of other institutes also & interested students can register for it from the website. The mode of the training may be online/offline or hybrid. Post internship, all the students are awarded a certificate subjected to full attendance & submission of project report and presentation.

KIIT School of Chemical Technology has collaborations with one of the best industries for training/projects, which includes-

  1. Indian Oil
  2. Aditya Birla (Birla Copper)
  3. Adani
  4. Nalco
  5. SRF Limited

Regarding internship, I just want to say that your focus should be only on getting into a good organisation, where you can learn how organisations work, how things move in the office, etc. whether you are getting paid or not.
