Kerala University to set up eight tech institutes; bring back private registrations
The University of Kerala is planning to re-introduce private registrations at undergraduate level. The decision was taken at the recently held Syndicate meeting in which the modalities of implementation were also discussed.
University administration took the decision after a number of concerns cropped up post discontinuation of private registrations, except those which took place through the School of Distance Education.
The university had facilitated private registrations for students for two years when the School of Distance Education’s recognition was withheld by the University Grants Commission. Those who had taken admission until then however, remained unaffected.
The Syndicate standing committee will be studying the various modalities for restoring the mode of study and submit the report in the next meeting.
Other major issues deliberated upon at the meeting included, declaration of results of degree programmes. It was decided at the meeting to release the results of the fifth and sixth semester without further delay; on June 17 and 26 respectively.
Many universities have already begun with their post-graduation admissions and Kerala University is still to announce the results.
Other major decisions that were taken at the Syndicate meeting are:
- To establish eight University Institutes of Technology (UITs) at Vallakadavu, Chariparambu, Kattakada, Kayamkulam, Azhoor, Kanjiramkulam, Tholicode and Kallara this year
- To establish a University Institute of Management (UIM) at Muthukulam
- To amend the university statute to implement the government decision to permit mutual transfers before the declaration of probation
- To permit research scholars to access the research wing for one hour in a day
