How I chose my career: Shweta Singh

Know how Shweta Singh, a BTech second year student, discovered her passion for teaching.

Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Faridabad

Today if you ask me what I want to become in life, the answer is – a teacher. But deciding this was not that easy for me. When I was in Class 8th, I remember studying in DAV International School, Ahmedabad. The school instilled an interest in me towards computers and I decided to become a Computer Science Engineer. Then, after Class 10th, I took Science, secured 93.8% in Class 12th Boards, and also cleared JEE Main exam of the same year. My father always wanted me to study in an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). I also wanted the same but never worked hard to achieve it. I always had the habit of studying one day before the exam, which was not enough to get me into the IITs. I cleared JEE Main somehow on the basis of Class 12th knowledge but could not make it to the NITs (National Institutes of Technology).

I took admission in Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Faridabad (formerly Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad). I took admission in this college because it was near my house. Also, a very important thing, if you wish to pursue higher studies in life, then the college from where you obtain your bachelor’s degree does not matter much, and hence, I opted for this college. After coming here, I realised that there were many students who were weak in Maths. Since I was a hosteller whoever had doubts in Maths, I used to teach them. Slowly, my room changed into a tuition center. From Maths, it went to other CSE (Computer Science Engineering) subjects and right now, I teach all my friends every possible subject. In the course of helping my buddies, I realised that I am meant for teaching, not for a desk job. Now you must be thinking that how I got this realisation in a college. Actually, when I teach someone, I feel like I want to give them 100% of the knowledge that I have, like if my knowledge is my heart, I feel I want to just give my heart out to the ones I am teaching. I know there are already many good teachers in the world, but what makes me different is the urge to make people learn. I just want to teach whoever comes to me; I just want to give my entire knowledge.

So currently, I am in the second year of my college, but after BTech, I am planning to go for MTech. Anyhow, I need to clear GATE exam this time. I am a modern girl who believes in living life on her own terms, but still, my current aim is to clear GATE exam and ask my father to drop me to IIT Delhi for my post-graduation. I know my father will be the happiest man on this planet to do that and I want to give him this happiness. After clearing GATE exam, I will go to fulfill my own dream of teaching.

So what I learned from my life is we should try to analyse everything that we do, as it will help us to know what our interests are and what actually our passion is. So my dear fellows, if you achieve something, be grateful, and aim even higher and if you fail to achieve something just don’t lose heart and keep working. There is something special and unique in you which you will realise sooner or later.
