The right guidance shows the right way: Vivek Kumar

After learning about different streams, I asked my teacher in which field I could earn more money. My teacher replied: “If you want to earn money, then go for business. Else, if you want to learn something important or work for society and make an impact, then study.”

When I was in 9th standard, my teacher told me that I would have to choose my preferred subjects from 11th standard. Then those subjects would decide my career- the field in which I wanted to go. I used to ask my class teacher and other people which subject they had opted for in their time, so that I could get an idea or reference to make my own choice. I also asked what would be my field of specialization after taking Maths or Science or Commerce stream. After learning about all this, I asked my teacher in which field I could earn more money. My teacher replied: “If you want to earn money, then go for business. Else, if you want to learn something important or work for society and make an impact, then study.”

Trust me, after having this kind of heavy discussions, I was really confused about which stream to choose. My teacher then gave me a very simple solution: Focus on the study now because whatever you want to be in the future is dependent on how you perform today (at that time, I was in 10th).

So, after completing my 10th, I researched a lot on the Internet. I talked to my seniors. Then, I finally decided to choose Maths stream. And now, I am thankful to myself that I chose something in which I was interested.

When I was in boarding school, I heard that there is something known as IIT in India and there is a place named Kota where everyone prepares for IIT. I came to know all these things when I was in the mid of 12th standard. I googled whatever doubt came to my mind regarding all this. Then, like any other student, I also developed the desire to prepare for the same exam. But then, all other kinds of problems started getting generated, like with whom I would go for preparation, the fee being very high, what would happen if I did not get selected, and which stream I should choose.

Then, due to some family problem, I took a drop of one year and joined a local JEE preparation coaching class. Finally, after a year, I filled approximately 11-12 forms of entrance exams of different colleges, including JEE. At the time of the results, I got to know I was selected in only one government college which was near to my home. But the quality of education and placements were not up to mark in that college. Coming to private colleges, I was selected in all of them. I got a huge scholarship offer from one of those colleges. I was only supposed to pay Rs. 10000 per semester. Study material and conveyance facilities were other things they were providing. These things made me happy but I had a bigger vision, so I looked at it from a different view too. Finally, after comparison and analysis, I choose LPU because of its placements and academic life.

In college, the initial days were awesome. We all want to meet new people and make new friends. Everyone was very open at that time but as time passed by, everyone got busy with their personal group. If you are a Sci-Fi guy, then you would feel comfortable in a group of similar people. There are a lot of types of students - students who have come from 50+ different countries having different culture. We learn many different things from each other.

We are supposed to maintain an aggregate attendance of 75%. So, for everything else, there is the remaining 25%. Attendance for every class is counted separately. We also go for proxy at times.

I have joined a social group named NSS in which we organize different events regarding social awareness or other campaigns. I also did a singing performance and some skits. Overall, life in college is awesome and I love it.

There is no dress code but during the placements, we are supposed to wear formals. Rest, we can do whatever we wanted to do, no one says anything. This is really cool. All we need to do is maintain a decent CGPA.

New place, new friends. There are so many places to visit and things to explore every weekend, no one objects.

That’s all from my side. All the best for your future!

At Lovely Professional University, you can take admission in BTech CSE through their own test called LPUNEST or based on your 12th marks.

JEE is not compulsory, but if you have a good JEE score, it can help you get admission and scholarship.

For B.Sc. Agriculture at LPU, the basic requirement is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and the usual eligibility is around 60% in aggregate. With 58%, you are very close to the requirement, so eligibility can depend on the current admission cycle and official university criteria, which ma
