The Ministry of Education (MoE) has not announced the official release date for the NIRF Ranking 2026 yet. The 2026 rankings are expected to be released in September, following the completion of the data submission process. The NIRF 2026 rankings have not been released yet. The Ministry of Education is expected to announce the rankings soon, but no official release date has been notified so far. IIT Madras retained the first position in the NIRF Engineering category in 2025. According to the Ministry of Education’s NIRF report, it had held the top position for the tenth consecutive year from 2016 to 2025. 

Top IITs in NIRF Engineering Ranking 2025

IITs continued to dominate the top positions in the NIRF Engineering ranking in 2025. IIT Madras was ranked first, followed by IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur. IIT Roorkee was sixth, while IIT Hyderabad was seventh. National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are another major group of government-funded engineering institutes included in the NIRF rankings. Some of the prominent NITs in the 2025 Engineering ranking included:
