Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is one of the toughest and the most admired entrance test among the youth in India planning to study engineering. Every year, over 10 lakh students appear for this coveted exam to get admission in some of the top engineering colleges in the country. However, not everyone gets selected into the government or top colleges such as Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) or National Institutes of Technology (NITs), as there are only 20,000 seats pan India that are considered as the best seats in engineering, including IITs, NITs, IIEST, etc. Moreover, getting the dream stream in such a college is not an easy task to accomplish.

However, the main question that arises is how to get admission to these top colleges amid tough competition. Here are some ways through which you can (if you strictly follow them) get into your dream college.

First, just ignore all the hype that exists in society. Go to a personal mentor who can guide you on what’s the reality on the paper. If you fail to get a personal mentor, you can visit Shiksha portal. Here you will get guidance from the alumni and students of top colleges and clear all the doubts regarding the paper.

Second, get into coaching or you can opt for self-study as well. However, in self-study, you will have to filter the unwanted topics that are of least importance in the exam. Go according to your study plan and make sure that all your concepts are cleared and to check that, do as many mock tests as possible.

Third, divide your time equally to devote to each subject or according to what your weak and strong subjects are. Also, do not ever skip or think that you can manage your class 12th syllabus easily. You will be able to solve the JEE paper only when your boards’ concepts are clear.

Fourth and the most important thing is that as most of the people/faculty would ask you to solve very long theoretical questions and say that if you can’t solve them in limited time then you might not be able to crack the exam. Don’t take their warnings too seriously, those long questions are just to connect several concepts into a single question. These type of long questions with such complex calculations have become an old trend, nowadays it is just a bunch of different concepts into a single question and nothing else. You will get to know once you start solving the last 10 years’ question papers.

Fifth, focus on the topics that are easy to score and the topics that usually have up to 3 questions each year in the exam. In chemistry, you will find questions mainly from organic and inorganic (mainly from s-block and p-block). In physics, you will see much of equilibrium and electrostatics. In maths, the questions mainly come from co-ordinates and differential equations.

Hence, if you follow all these steps then you are most likely to get into your dream college.
