As a student of VIT University, I would say that our college has been tackling the situation pretty well and ensured that it doesn't affect students’ studies.
Here are some of the few initiatives the college has taken:

  1. VIT university always gives their students a two-month-long vacation every summer to avoid the summer heat starting from May to July first week but this particular year, due to COVID-19 outbreak, the institution has decided to advance the summer break from mid of march to the end of May.
  2. Classes will normally commence from the start of June and the final assessment will start in the third or fourth week of June, leaving enough time for students to complete their incomplete lab work and assignments.
  3. Required and necessary documents of notes and lectures have been distributed to students by the faculty members through emails and social media portals.
  4. A few faculty members have been giving online quizzes and also assignments to be submitted as a hard copy on arrival or upload on Moodle, VIT’s online student portal, with a given deadline.
  5. A few of them have been giving online lectures on YouTube where a student can view the lectures and prepare for the exams.
  6. In addition to all these, the university is collaborating with various companies and institutions and organizing online certified workshops from reputed institutions and companies for free where the student can gain knowledge from the best and also learn more insights from the industrial point of view.
Example: In collaboration with ISRO, VIT is giving an opportunity for students to undergo an online certified course on GIS and Remote Sensing which is a advanced study in today's world in the field of Civil Engineering. It is a 12-day course where various researchers, engineers and also professors will be explaining the fundamentals of the course. There are various other online workshops in various fields students are being made to gain knowledge from.
  1. VIT University is also providing online courses known as VITOL where students can register for both their Program Elective courses and University Elective Courses and complete them in a span of two months and they can write the exam after the university commences. The student should log in daily and complete all assignments and quizzes on time. This is a very valuable opportunity for passed-out students, timed-out students and final year students.
