DU Admission Process for ECA Quota 2025-26

Candidates should be aware that they can secure admission to the University of Delhi (DU) under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota. All DU colleges are required to offer seats for admissions under the ECA quota. Every year, under the ECA quota (subject-wise), each DU college offers not more than 5% of seats. Read this Shiksha article to learn more about the list of activities included, steps to apply, trial dates and more.
Delhi University's admission process for UG courses starts after the results are out for candidates who wish to get admission to UG and PG courses at Delhi University. To secure admission to the University of Delhi, candidates must pass the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Students need to register on the Delhi University CSAS portal who want to appear in the CUET exam to get admission to the UG and PG courses. Additionally, under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota, candidates can secure admission to the University of Delhi (DU). Candidates should be aware that all Delhi University colleges offer seats for admissions under the ECA quota. Every year, each DU college offers not more than 5% of seats under the ECA quota (subject-wise).
DU colleges notify the actual number of seats available on their official website for admission under the ECA Quota (Supernumerary). Apart from this, every Delhi University college must mention the requirements for different ECA categories on their official website as well as the University's website, well in advance. Candidates need to take part in trials, who apply for admission under the ECA quota. Students should be aware that dates for both preliminary and final trials will be posted on the University of Delhi’s official website.
The guidelines that candidates must be aware of to secure admission under the ECA quota in the University of Delhi’s colleges are cited below:
Candidates can apply for DU admission via Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Before applying for the course, aspirants must check out the eligibility requirements. To apply students can visit NTA official website. After the entrance test, the cutoff marks are made available beind the login on the official samarth portal of the university. At the time of CUET registration, aspirants must selection DU as a preference.
The admission process for Delhi University (DU) is extremely competitive, especially for the well known and popular courses and colleges. However, the difficulty level of admission varies depending on the programme a student wishes to get into. Some of the key parameters that define how difficult can be for a student to get into a good DU college with good course:
- Scores in CUET/ Class 12
- Category
- Selection of College + Course combination in the CSAS registration process
Up until 2021, only top scorers of Class 12 were able to get into Hindu, Hansraj, Miranada, SRCC, LSR and other reputed colleges for top courses such as BA (Hons) in Economics/ English/ Political Science, BSc (Hons) Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics and BCom (Hons) courses. However, the introduction of CUET has changed the game. Now, even if a student could not do well in Class 12 has a chance of getting into the cream colleges with a good score in CUET.
However, if the dream is just to study in a reputed DU college, there is a basic hack that can be followed by anyone and everyone. All the top colleges of DU offer short-duration certificate courses in Languages and other interest areas. Those who are not able to get into DU can witness the buzz of being a DU student by pursuing these courses. For details on the same, students are advised to visit the official website of the DU affiliated colleges.
