The eligibility criteria for each course is different. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam. For UG course, candidates must have passed Intermediate with at least 50 per cent marks from any board. For PG course, graduate degree with at least 50 per cent marks from any recognised university is required.
Jamia also accepts CUET UG score for admission to some undergraduate courses. So, candidates who are appearing for CUET exam must first check the admission and eligibility requirements of Jamia Millia Islamia University to know whether JMI accepts CUET score or JMI score for a particular exam.
A candidates who has graduated in any discipline in 10+2+3 pattern can apply at Jamia to pursue MA in Mass Communication. Additionally, a candidate should have at least 50 per cent aggregate at graduation level.
JMI selection criteria includes shortlisting of candidates on the basis of scores obtained in JMI exam. For some courses candidates are required to also appear for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). The cut off for each course is released after the selection procedure is over and candidates are called for counselling and document verification. JMI Reservation Criteria 2026 for Muslim Minority
According to Minority Educational Institution under Article 30(1) of the Constitution of India read with Section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act by the Commission; JMI offers following reservations to Muslim minorities:
- 30% of total seats in each course shall be earmarked for Muslim applicants.
- 10% of total seats in each course shall be earmarked for Women Muslim applicants.
- 10% of total seats in each course shall be earmarked for OBC-NCLs and STs who are Muslim
Note - If seats remain vacant from second and third category, they will be transferred to category 1 Muslim applicants.
JMI Reservation Criteria 2026 for Person with Disabilities
As per Persons with Disabilities (Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment) Gazette Notification Dated 15 June 2017, JMI has to reserve 5% seats in all courses for physically challenged persons in following categories:
- Blindness/low vision
- Hearing impairment
- Locomotor disability or cerebral palsy
- Autism/Intellectual/specific learning/mental illness
- Multiple disabilities from amongst person under clauses 6 and 9, including deaf blindness
- Muscular Dustrophy
- Leprosy Cured
- Dwarfism
- Acid attack victim
- Deaf
- Hard of Hearing
- Speech and Language Disability
- Chronic Neurological conditions
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Haemophilia
- Thalassemua
- Sickle Cell Disease
These candidates will get relaxation to the extent of 5% marks in qualifying examination. Such candidates shall be considered under PwD candidates with not less than 40% disability. Additionally, in Faculty of Dentistry, candidates with only locomotory disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% will be considered. In case, such candidates are not there, the vacant seats in this 5% quota shall be filled up by persons with locomotory disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50%.
Note - These reservations will be made to the extent of 1% each and can be interchanged if there is non-availability of eligibile applicants.

Candidates have to apply online to appear in JMI Entrance Exam. The application forms are released on the official website of JMI. Candidates have to first create an account by filling their basic details and then fill the detailed application form, select their course, upload required documents and pay the application fee. The registration window usually remains open for a month.
To get a PG Diploma in Urdu Media from JMI, candidates must have at least 55% marks in Urdu, Persian or Arabic in the final exams of their class 12.
The JMI Entrance Exam cut off is calculated based on various factors such as difficulty level of exam, number of test-takers, total marks of the exam and number of seats available. All the factors determining the JMI cut off vary according to year. Jamia Millia Islamia clearly states that the University will prepare the rank list strictly as per the merit of the entrance test score of candidates in various programs based on the provisions made in the University Ordinances and in accordance with various applicable reservations and relaxations.
Jamia Millia Islamia releases cut off for different categories, including General, Other Backward Caste, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe. The JMI entrance exam cut off for SC and ST category students is usually lower than cut off for General category.

JMI Reservation Criteria 2026 for Internal (Jamia) Students
Students who have passed their qualifying examination (X or XII) from Jamia Schools as regular students, shall have 5% seats reserved for them in all undergraduate/ degree/diploma/certificate courses.
It must be noted that students who have been permitted to appear in different exams at Jamia as private candidates or distance mode candidates, shall not be eligible for Internal (Jamia) category.
JMI 2026 Reservation and Relaxation Policy Under Special Provisions
Jamia offers several reservations and relaxation policies under some special provisions. Let’s discuss them one by one.
JMI Reservation Policy for Kashmiri Migrants
Below are the reservation policies for admission of Kashmiri Migrants at JMI:
- Kashmiri Migrants must apply and go through JMI admission process. Their admission will be done based on 5% of total seats in a course (not exceeding than that) and not more than two seats in courses offered by Faculty of Engineering &Technology, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, A J K Mass Communication Research Centre, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Education and Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences.
- No such relaxation will be given to Kashmiri Migrants for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course.
- Kashmiri Migrants do not have to submit domicile certificate. However, they have to submit a certificate that supports their claim of being Kashmiri Migrants. They can get the certificate from the registered Divisional Commissioner of the concerned State/Union Territory.
Note - Candidates from Jammu & Kashmir will also have similar reservation policy, except their admission will be considered over and above not exceeding 2 seats.
JMI Reservation Policy for Foreign Candidates (General Category)
Foreign candidates have to apply as regular candidates under General category apart from applying against supernumerary seats. Such candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria required for specific course. Their admissions will be done based on their position in the entrance test’s merit list and other components, if applicable.
As per JMI policy, the total number of candidates from foreign origin must not be more than 10% of regular seats.
- For B.Arch, no supernumerary seats are present.
- For BDS, two seats are reserved for admission of Foreign/NRI students. Their admission will be done based on NEET score.
- Foreign candidates applying under general category must follow the same process as that of GEN candidates.
