The Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test (FTII JET) 2024 application process is expected to start soon. The notification is expected to be released in December 2023. Candidates who fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria of FTII JET will have to register online on the Joint Admission Test (JET) admission portal. The FTII JET application process will last for about two months. Those candidates who submit the application form successfully will be issued the FTII JET admit card by the end of February 2024. The FTII JET exam will be conducted in offline mode. The FTII JET exam consists of two papers- Paper I and Paper II. Paper II will be evaluated for only those candidates who will qualify for the FTII JET 2024 Paper I. The FTII JET 2024 results of papers I and II will be declared tentatively in the first week of April 2024.

Candidates qualifying for the written test will be called for an interview/audition round and orientation. The schedule will be released tentatively in May 2024. The FTII JET 2024 result final will be declared in June 2024 and selected candidates will be called for FTII JET counselling through the Joint Seat Allocation (JSA) system in July 2024. Candidates will be given a chance to register themselves for counseling as per their preference in the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata.

What is FTII JET?

The FTII JET is a national-level entrance exam conducted annually for candidates who want to be admitted to postgraduate and post-graduate diploma courses. A Joint Entrance Test (JET) is conducted by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata to shortlist candidates for admission offered by the two institutes. There are two wings under FTII viz.

  • Film Wing: It offers courses such as direction & screenplay, writing, editing, acting, cinematography, feature film screenplay writing, sound designing and recording and art direction & production design
  • Television wing: It offers courses such as directions, electronic cinematography, sound recording & television engineering, and video editing.

FTII JET 2024 Application Process

Candidates interested in taking admission in either of two institutes (FTII or SRFTI), will have to fill out the FTII JET 2024 application form. The candidates applying for the examination will have to ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions as per the instructions and advertisement declared by the institute. Candidates will have to follow the below-mentioned steps to successfully register themselves for FTII JET.

Step 1: Register for JET

Candidates will have to fill the JET 2024 application form which will be available on the official website of the entrance exam. Aspirants will have to create a login ID and provide their details. Once the details are filled in, candidates will have to confirm their registration. 

Step 2: Completion of application form

Candidates will have to login with their application number and date of birth to complete the second step of their registration. In this step, candidates will have to fill in their personal information like address, id proof number, educational details etc.

Step 3: Select the test centre

FTII JET will be conducted in 28 cities across the country. At the time of registration, the candidates will have to select two test cities as per their preference from the drop down menu. After the last date of registration, candidates will be allotted one among the two preferred cities. In the rare case that a candidate is not allotted any of the preferred cities, he/she will be allotted a nearby city.

Step 4: Upload the documents

Candidates will have to upload their photograph, signature, educational documents and reservation certificates (if any).

Step 5: Pay the application fee

After successfully submitting the form, candidates will have to proceed to payment option and pay the application fee. Candidates could pay the fee online through Credit Card/ Debit Card etc. Candidates had to pay the below mentioned application fee:

Note: Please note that for the courses which are offered by both institutes, a candidate will have to pay registration fee only once, and he/she will be considered for admission to both institutes. Fee paid will be non–refundable, non–transferable and non–adjustable under any circumstances. Bank charges for online transaction will have to be borne by the applicant.

Step 6: Get the FTII JET admit card

Candidates will have to download their admit card from the official website of the entrance exam. The hall tickets will be released online only and it will be a mandatory document that one must produce at the time of examination. Failing to do so might result in the cancellation of candidature. Admit cards will not be sent by post or by email.

FTII JET Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to take admission in FTII or SRFTI must be eligible to sit for the FTII JET 2024 entrance exam. Aspirants must be above 21 years of age and the minimum educational qualification required to be eligible for application for all courses except 3 Year PG Diploma in Art Direction & Production Design and 3 Year UG Certificate course in Animation & Visual Effects Design is Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in any discipline. 

For 3 Year PG Diploma in Art Direction & Production Design and 3 Year UG Certificate course in Animation & Visual Effects Design the eligibility is as under:

3 Year PG Diploma in Art Direction & Production Design Bachelor’s degree in applied arts, architecture, painting, sculpture, interior design or related fields in fine arts or equivalent.
3 Year UG Certificate course in Animation & Visual Effects Design H.S.C or Diploma of minimum 2 year after S.S.C from Government recognised Board or equivalent

Note: Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree and awaiting results, can also apply for all PG Diploma and PG Certificate courses. Similarly, candidates appearing H.S.C (12th standard) or final year of Government recognised diploma (Minimum of 2-year) after S.S.C and awaiting results, can also apply for UG Certificate course. 

However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, are allowed to join the course, only if they submit a mark sheet, passing certificate, on or before 31st May 2024, from the Controller of Examinations /Principal /Registrar or any other equivalent competent authority of the University /Institution /College, stating that the candidate has appeared for his/ her graduation examination / H. S. C. Board examination /final year of minimum 2-year Government recognised diploma after S.S.C and he/she is a graduate/ Passed.

Reservations

In each course, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST), 27% for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “Non-Creamy” layer (OBC-NCL), and 10% for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as Gen-EWS. Further, 5% of total seats are reserved on horizontal basis for Persons with benchmark Disabilities.

Candidates seeking admission to Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata will have to follow the process as under:
Step 1: JET Entrance Exam

After receiving the admit cards, candidates will be able to sit for Written Test [(Paper-I & Paper- II). The exam duration will be of three hours and will be offline (pen and paper test). The exam will be divided into two parts – MCQ (multiple-choice questions) and Descriptive. The exam will be of 100 marks. On the basis of the performance in Paper-I, Paper-II of only selected nos. of top scoring candidates (based on the respective category) will be evaluated, as per the ratio mentioned in evaluation process. Roll numbers of the candidates shortlisted for evaluation of Paper-II, will be published on the website of JET 2024.

Step 2: Appear for Audition (for screen Acting) Orientation and Interview

On the basis of the performance in Paper-I + Paper- II, Candidates will be further shortlisted for Audition (only for Screen Acting), Orientation and Interview for all other courses except Screen Acting. 

Step 3: JET entrance exam result

(For all other courses except Screen Acting) On the basis of the performance in Written Test (Paper-I & Paper-II) + Orientation + Interview, final joint merit list of FTII & SRFTI will be published. (For Screen Acting) On the basis of the performance in Written Test (Paper-I & Paper-II) + Audition, Result-1 will be prepared. Further, on the basis of orientation and Interview, Result -2 will be prepared. Final selection will be on the basis of Result-1 and Result-2, each containing 50% weightage.

After publishing joint merit lists, preferences will be obtained from the shortlisted candidates. Based on the preference(s) and merit, candidates will be selected to a particular course in FTII & SRFTI. This counselling may be carried-out offline in Pune/Mumbai/ Kolkata OR online OR through system software etc.

Step 4: Undergo the medical test

Candidates who are selected for the courses will be required to undergo Medical Test as per the selection criteria of both institutes. Procedure of the Medical Test shall be communicated to the selected candidates by the respective institutes. Candidature of a selected candidate can be cancelled on the basis of the outcome of Medical Test. Decision of respective institutes in this regard would be final & binding on all concerned.

FTII JET 2024 Syllabus

FTII JET syllabus includes topics like Art & craft of Film & TV, Allied Arts, Literature, General Awareness, Environmental Awareness, General Knowledge related to Art and culture and Media, etc for Part A of Paper I and in Part B of Paper I specific questions are asked. Paper II is subjective and it includes long descriptive questions, questions (including sketches photographs, etc.), and short note questions based on the subject. FTII JET 2024 Pattern

The FTII JET exam is conducted annually in offline (pen-paper) mode. The paper will have two parts: Paper I and Paper II. While Paper I is objective type, Paper II is descriptive. The exam pattern for FTII JET is such that aspirants will have to attempt all the questions in three hours duration. Question Paper will consist of a maximum of 100 marks, which will be further sub-divided as below:

Paper I: (Time provision 60 min.)

Part A: Multiple Choice Questions (Single Answer type): 20 marks [on OMR sheet]
Part B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): 30 marks [on OMR sheet]

Paper II: (Time provision 120 min.)
Descriptive Answer Questions: 50 marks

FTII JET 2024 Preparation Tips

While preparing for FTII JET, it is important for candidates to have a plan in mind. This is how candidates should plan their FTII JET exam preparation: 

  • Have a proper preparation strategy in place
  • Know exam patterns thoroughly and go through sample papers and syllabus for FTII JET.
  • Pick the best text books to prepare.
  • The aim should be to score well in entrance exam.
  • Focus on your time management skills and improving speed of answering questions based on English and General Knowkedge.

FTII JET 2023-24 Admit Card

FTII JET admit card will be available for download on the official website of the institute in the second week of February 2024. The hall ticket is a mandatory document that a registered student will have to produce at the time of the JET exam. The admit card for FTII JET exam will be issued to only those candidates who will duly fill out and submit their application form. Candidates will be asked to bring the admit card for admission to the center during the examination.
