FTII JET 2022 registrations will commence tentatively in first week of November 2022. Candidates seeking admission to postgraduate degree and diploma courses offered by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) must fill in the application form in online mode when released. Candidates must ensure to fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria before filling the application form. FTII JET 2022 important dates will be announced with the release of the application forms. FTII JET is a written test of three hours’ duration consisting of objective type and subjective questions and is conducted in 27 cities across India. FTII JET is conducted in offline mode (pen-paper mode). In 2021, SRFTI was the organizing institute of JET 2021.

What is FTII JET?

The FTII JET is a national level entrance exam is conducted annually for candidates who want to take admission in postgraduate and post-graduate diploma courses. A Joint Entrance Test (JET) is conducted by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata to shortlist candidates for admission offered by the two institutes. There are two wings under FTII viz.

  • Film Wing: It offers courses such as direction & screenplay, writing, editing, acting, cinematography, feature film screenplay writing, sound designing and recording and art direction & production design
  • Television wing: It offers courses such as directions, electronic cinematography, sound recording & television engineering and video editing.

FTII JET 2022 Application Process

Candidates who want to take admission in either of two institutes (FTII or SRFTI), will have to fill the FTII JET 2022 application form. The Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions as per the instruction and advertisement declared by the institute. Candidates need to follow the below-mentioned steps to successfully register themselves for FTII JET.

Step 1: Register for JET

Candidates can fill the JET 2022 application form which will be available on the official website of the entrance exam. Aspirants will have to create a login ID and will need to provide their details. Once the details are filled in, candidates will have to confirm their registration. 

Step 2: Completion of application form

Candidates will have to login with their application number and date of birth to complete the second step of their registration. In this step, candidates will have to fill their personal information like address, id proof number, educational details etc.

Step 3: Select the test centre

FTII JET will be conducted in 27 cities across the country. Candidates will be able to fill three choices for the test centre.

Step 4: Upload the documents

Candidates will have to upload their photograph, signature, educational documents and reservation certificates (if any).

Step 5: Pay the application fee

After successfully submitting the form, candidates will have to proceed to payment option and pay the application fee. Candidates can pay the fee online through Credit Card/ Debit Card etc. Candidates can pay the below mentioned application fee:

Step 6: Get the FTII JET admit card

Candidates will have to download their admit card from the official website of the entrance exam. Make note that the hall tickets will be released online only and it is a mandatory document that one must produce at the time of examination. Failing to do so will result in the cancellation of candidature. 

FTII JET Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to take admission in FTII or SRFTI must be eligible to sit for the FTII JET 2022 entrance exam. Aspirants must be above 21 years of age and the minimum educational qualification required to be eligible for application for all courses except Art Direction & Production Design is Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in any discipline. For Art Direction & Production Design, the eligibility is as under:

Courses under the EDM (SRFTI) /TV (FTII) Group : The minimum educational qualification required to be eligible for application for all courses is Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in any discipline.

Note: Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelor's degree, and awaiting results, can also apply for JET 2021. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, are allowed to join the programme, only if they submit a passing certificate from the Controller of Examinations/ Principal/Registrar or any other equivalent competent authority of the University/ Institution, stating that candidate has appeared for his/ her graduation examination in the academic year 2021-22 and based on this examination, he/she is a graduate.

FTII JET 2022 Admission Process

Candidates seeking admission to Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata will have to follow the process as under:

Step 1: JET Entrance Exam

Once receiving the admit cards, candidates will be able to sit for the FTII JET entrance exam. The exam duration will be of three hours and will be offline (pen and paper test). The exam will be divided into two parts – MCQ (multiple-choice questions) and Descriptive. The exam will be of 100 marks.

Step 2: Appear for Interview

Candidates who will be shortlisted will receive a letter from the university notifying them of the same. Candidates will be called for the second round – Interview. Candidates will be called after the JET entrance exam score card are released.

Step 3: JET entrance exam result

The results for the entrance exam is usually released within 30 days after the conclusion of the exam. The results for FTII JET will be released online only. Candidates who will appear for the exam can check their results by visiting the official website - ftii.ac.in.

Step 4: Undergo the medical test

Candidates who will be shortlisted on the basis of JET 2022 will be required to undergo a medical test as per the selection criteria of both the institutes. This medical test will be conducted by the Medical Officer(s) appointed by the respective institutes. The candidature of a shortlisted candidate can be cancelled on the basis of the outcome of the Medical test. The decision of respective institutes in this regard would be final & binding on all concerned.

FTII JET Syllabus

FTII JET syllabus includes topics like: Art & craft of Film & TV, Allied Arts, Literature, General Awareness, Environmental Awareness, General Knowledge related to Art & Culture and Media etc for Part A of Paper I and in Part B of Paper I subject specific questions are asked. Paper II is subjective and it includes long descriptive questions, questions (including
sketches photographs etc.) and short note question based on subject. Candidates are advised to start their preparation in advance. Get detailed infornation about FTII JET 2022 syllabus and prepare for the exam accordingly.

FTII JET Pattern

The FTII JET exam will be conducted annually in offline (pen-paper) mode. The paper will have two parts: Paper I and Paper II. While Paper I is objective type, Paper II is descriptive. Candidates will have to appear for JET exam and those qualifying the exam will be shortlisted for interview round. The exam pattern for FTII JET is such that aspirants will have to attempt multiple choice and descriptive questions in three hours duration. Question Paper will consist of maximum 100 marks, which will be further sub-divided as below;

  • Paper I Part A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), [single answer type] for 20 marks and Part B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) [multiple answer type] for 30 marks
  • Paper II: Descriptive Answers for 50 marks.

Note: Each wrong answer will be awarded -0.25 marks (negative marks) in Paper I of FTII JET exam.

Question and Answer booklet of Paper I will be distributed to the candidates 10 minutes before the scheduled time of the examination and will be collected back 90 minutes after the commencement of examination.
In the case of Paper II, the Question and Answer booklet will be distributed to the candidates, only after 80 minutes of commencement of examination and will be collected immediately after 180 minutes of the commencement of examination.

FTII JET Preparation Tips

While preparing for FTII JET, it is important for candidates to have a plan in mind. This is how candidates should plan their FTII JET exam preparation: 

  • Have a proper preparation strategy in place
  • Know exam pattern thoroughly and go through sample papers and syllabus for FTII JET.
  • Pick the best text books to prepare.
  • The aim should be to score well in entrance exam
  • Focus on your time management skills and improving speed of answering questions based on English and General Knowkedge.
  • Solve as many sample papers and previous years' question papers as possible to know your strong and weak areas for the exam.

FTII JET Admit Card

FTII JET admit card will be available for download on the official website of the institute from second week of December, 2022. The hall ticket is a mandatory document that a registered student must produce at the time of JET exam. The admit card for FTII JET exam would be issued for only those candidates who have duly filled and submitted their application form.
