Here we are sharing section-wise tips as per TISSNET exam pattern:

  1. Mathematical Skills and Logical Reasoning: This section, in particular, is concept-driven and needs sharp calculating skills. The important topics to focus in this section include Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Probability, Higher Maths for the Mathematics area and Blood Relations, Venn Diagram, Arrangements, Puzzles, Coding-Decoding, etc. In the last few days, candidates should revise all formulae a day before the exam.
  2. Verbal ability: In order to get a good score in the Verbal Ability section of TISSNET, candidates should be well versed in Reading Comprehension, word analogies, antonym synonym, error spotting, parajumbles, and sentence correction. Test-takers should go through rules of grammar, vocabulary and idioms & phrases in the last few days before the exam.
  3. GK revision: General Awareness section has maximum weightage in the TISSNET exam. Candidates who are consuming news on a regular basis will have an edge in current affairs over others. Notably, a major chunk of questions in this section is asked from static GK, so candidates should revise the details of important movements, committees, famous authors, India’s GDP, famous dance, festivals, Judgement, discoveries, etc.

Focus on Speed and Accuracy
The duration of TISSNET is one hour and 40 minutes. Since there is no negative marking, candidates are advised to attempt as many questions as possible within the given time frame. If a candidate wishes to excel in TISSNET, they have to make sure that they attempt the questions with accuracy. Only the right answers will fetch marks and no marks will be awarded for question not answered and incorrect answers. Hence, speed coupled with accuracy will help them score high. For this, candidates are advised to first select the questions they are confident in and attempt those. After that, in the remaining duration, they may attempt other questions to ensure securing maximum score.

Focus on Strong Areas

Since hardly 10 days are left for the exam, aspirants of Tata Institute of Social Sciences should focus only on the areas that they have a stronghold on. While they should revise for the areas they are comparatively weaker in but have a clear idea of the concepts and have completed the syllabus, it is not advised to spend too much time on these topics. Even if they do, the revision of strong topics should not be compromised.

Do Not Start New Topics

It is common for candidates to leave out certain topics which they are not comfortable in owing to a lack of conceptual clarity and understanding. At this stage, they should not attempt to complete those topics. Firstly, there is not adequate time left to prepare afresh, secondly, trying to complete these topics in the last few days will only increase their anxiety, which would only hamper their self-confidence before the exam day. They should rather focus on building a foolproof exam-taking strategy to get a maximum possible score.

Take Mock Tests

In the last few days, even though candidates will not get a chance to take several mock tests, they should take at least two mock tests and analyse those thoroughly to get a clear idea on the state of preparation and finer areas of improvement. They should also build the final exam taking strategy based on the performance in these mock test. Candidates should also take the mock test available on the official website of TISS to be familiar with the test-taking interface.

Build Exam Taking Strategy

Based on the last couple of mock tests, candidates should finalise their test-taking strategy. This would include the plan on topics to attempt, the minimum number of questions to attempt in each section without compromising on the accuracy, time to spend in each section and questions, and order of sections, to name a few. Having a proper exam taking strategy in place helps save a lot of time and unwarranted anxiety for the test-takers.

Stay Calm, Stay Confident
In this last leg before the test, candidates should stay calm and composed. They should not take undue stress which would hamper their confidence level. Instead of being tensed about their performance in TISSNET, candidates should get adequate rest for their body and mind. Instead of studying for long hours, they should take breaks in between and engage in any activity which calms their mind and relaxes them, such as listening to music, taking a stroll, etc.
