Mystory@Kritesh Gupta

I still remember that trade-off between Humanities and Science, the day I had to choose my stream after passing class Xth.  After taking guidance from my father I chose Science as my stream, but I clinged onto my liking for Humanities.

After giving engineering entrance exams, I could not get into NIT or IIT or BITS, and then I decided to pursue my Electrical Engineering at JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida. I made the most of the opportunity there and got placed in India’s number one construction company L&T ECC. Worked there for 14 months and suddenly one day I decided to leave my job for achieving the next big thing in my life. My mind always wondered how I can impact the life of people in a greater manner and this led me to prepare for Civil Services.

My mind always wondered how I can impact the life of people in a greater manner and this led me to prepare for Civil Services.

I couldn’t clear the exam in my first attempt and thus decided to continue my preparation along with MBA prep. Being at the work site for a good duration of time, I had a bent towards administration and management. The management bent led me to prepare for CAT, which I managed myself. My CAT score, ROI, Practice School, meritocracy and amazing campus led me to choose BITS Pilani for fulfilling my pursuit for management studies. The affinity to Humanities and Civil Services is still there and I am planning my future aligned in the same direction.

How I prepared for college admission

As explained earlier, along with the preparation for Civil Services, I was managing my CAT preparation. The paper II of Civil Services has somewhat similar curriculum linked to CAT exam. But CAT had a difficulty level higher than that paper, so I used online websites and famous books to get accustomed to the questions. Closer to the exams, I practiced with online tests based on CAT pattern. Apart from BITS I had also got into DSM of DTU but chose BITS due to the above mentioned factors. Along with CAT, I gave XAT too. Although I could not make it to XLRI, but the experience of giving  XAT exam was quite good as it includes a current affairs based section, which is essential for any student in today’s world. You ought to know what’s happening around your world to stay a notch ahead in your life.

My college experience – Classes, extra-curricular activities and more

The lush green campus spread over a huge area provides a suitable growth environment. The academic time table is very well prepared to balance the time for academics and honing one’s own skills. The day starts with a morning workout (gym, yoga, sports or a simple walk) and then depending on the schedule, classes start at 9am and end by 1, 3, and 6 in the evening.

The variety of mess food available at each day fulfils the craving for home-made food. Evenings are filled with the buzz of birds singing along with their return to their homes, a calm serene sun symbolizing time for some get-together at Redis (one-stop shop with Chai and all). From evening till night we are engaged in case studies and assignments which help us in development of our management understanding and increasing our potential.

I would like to be a part of a start-up idea and work to realise it into a successful venture.

I like to attend Supply chain management, Marketing, Marketing research, Corporate finance and taxation classes as these are filled with interaction and discussions. Strategy and consulting attracts me the most, but you have to be well versed in all the dimensions of management to be a good manager and thus a leader. Apart from academics, my engagements in creative club and alumni relations club help me in developing soft skills and increasing my creativity quotient. Recently, our management fest INTERFACE’17 concluded and I being a part of the event management team learned to mitigate and prevent risks which can occur during events, through proper planning and coordination. Facilitating in Media Relations cell I get to know how to be at the front end and be aware about current happenings. Participating in inter-college competitions, something I’ve always been doing since school times, I have won three prizes in three different events since Aug 2016.

This college has facilitated me a lot in exploring my inner potential and capabilities and let them develop step by step. Since the first day we have been stretched to increase our capacity of handling and managing simultaneous things and also helped us in multi-dimensional thought process. I would like to be a part of a start-up idea and work to realise it into a successful venture.
