CMAT Admission Process: Key Points

Admission through CMAT is based on Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI). Some B-Schools conduct Writing Ability Test (WAT) instead of GD. The CMAT accepting colleges conduct the GD/PI/WAT round as per their own admission cycle so candidates must check the official websites of their preferred colleges for application updates.

  • Application process for MBA colleges is online and candidates have to visit specific college's website to fill the form.
  • Candidates have to pay application fee for every target institute to be able to register for admission.
  • Having the required CMAT score does not confirm admission. Selection of candidates is based on GD/PI and academic record.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission to colleges accepting CMAT score?
A:
Although there is no minimum graduation marks criterion for appearing in the CMAT exam, the criterion applies for admission through CMAT. As per the AICTE recommendation, the candidate must have completed graduation from a recognised university with a minimum score of 50 per cent in aggregate (45 per cent for Reserved category students) to be eligible for admission to a UGC recognised MBA/PGDM course. Apart from academic criteria, candidates have to also fulfil the CMAT cut off criteria. CMAT cut offs are different for different institutes. The CMAT cut offs are fixed by the institutes individually on the basis of several parameters. Only those candidates are shortlisted for admission who meet the minimum cut off criteria. If a candidate does not meet the CMAT cut off, they will not be considered for Group Discussion and Personal Interview round or direct admission. Meeting CMAT cut off is the prerequisite for admission to the MBA institutes. Candidates must visit their preferred institute website and check the CMAT cut off percentile required, before applying for admission.
Q:   What is the CMAT score calculation process?
A:
CMAT scores calculation is a simple process and it is based on the marking scheme. The raw score calculation in CMAT is the sum total of correct/incorrect entries and unanswered questions. To understand the CMAT score calculation, first understand the marking scheme. For each correct answer, 4 marks will be allotted For each incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted For each unanswered question, 0 marks will be allotted CMAT has five sections and all the sections have 20 questions each. Thus, the total marks of CMAT exam is 400. If a candidate has got 70/100 questions correct, 10 questions incorrect and skipped 5 questions, then their total score will be (70x4-10+5x0) 270/400. After the calculation of CMAT raw score of each test takers, they are converted into percentile for result and all India merit list preparation. On the CMAT result cum scorecard, raw score as well as percentile is mentioned.

So, yes one can say that there is a minimum age limit but not maximum age limit for appearing in CMAT. A large percentage of CMAT applicants is of fresh graduates as it suits them better to continue education in full-time mode. However, many working professional also appear for the CMAT exam to purse executive MBA, Online MBA, Distance MBA or Part-Time MBA from reputed institutes.

A:

Since one has to apply to CMAT accepting colleges individually, there is no limit to the number. Aspirants can apply to as many colleges as they want and think they have the chance of getting admission in. While applying for CMAT, candidates must check the CMAT cut offs for the colleges and apply to only those who have cut offs in the range in which their CMAT score falls. For example, if a candidate has scored 76 percentile in CMAT, they should apply to colleges accepting scores in the range of 70-76 percentile.
