How I secured admission at BIT: Harsh Dev
I firmly believe and favour the exigency of skills and empirical knowledge over theoretical one, and this is one of the main reasons why my semester theory results never bothered me much. Lab experiments have always fascinated me, and so, I could get proper sublime products, regarding which even the professors acclaimed me. Since the course I’m pursuing is not a course of my interest, I put my heart and soul into scoring just well enough!
How I got enrolled to BIT
Actually, my first NEET exam got repealed as the paper was leaked. I prepared for the 2nd attempt and as I was a student under general category and so the counselling for medical aspirants was untoward for apprentices like me. I was shattered! Meanwhile, I overheard one of my friends talking about career scopes in Pharmaceutical Sciences and he recommended opting for Pharma in BIT. I surfed about the same on the internet and decided to register myself, filled in the form, substantiated my details providing my NEET marks (weightage 60%) and 12th percentage (weightage 40%). Luckily, I found my name among the seven meritorious students listed for counselling in the first merit list under the category of general students.
We had our counselling on September 1, 2016. It was really unsystematic. There were many students who didn't have their names enlisted, so they were waiting for the 2nd and 3rd merit lists. Even I had to wait for approximately 6 hours with the risk of carrying a demand draft of an amount approximate to 1 lakh, as it was mandatory for admission. The situation worsened when we were informed about the classes the next day onwards. I, like any other student before the merit list was announced, was anxious, tensed and worried. Moreover, I wasn’t even carrying my other stuff and luggage. All I had were a pair of clothes and all the documents required for the counselling purpose. As I stated, I got myself enrolled, registered for the 2016 batch of Pharmacy and rushed to seek a hostel room. I must mention that there were many students who weren't that fortunate to get admitted. They had to suffer the allowance loss due to demand draft and also the burden of rejection. They were heartbroken.
How I spent my college years
I was just with a handful of stuff to sustain in a dirty, webbed, iron cot for 2 days succeeding the counselling day, with my new roommate. The first day went in introductory sessions. The teachers were quite overbearing. Let me give an example. When I went for counselling, I was not even sure about my admission, hence, I wasn’t carrying my luggage. And call it my bad fate, it rained heavily those two days. I was misguided and misled while looking for my classroom even on the second day. Somehow, I managed to find it! I was late by 2-3 minutes and even though I was drenched in water, my excuse wasn't entertained by the professor.
Then, we had 3 days of consecutive holidays in which I rushed to my native place to collect all my luggage. The conspicuous shortcoming of our semester was its delay because of NEET. We had to complete 6 months of syllabus within a treble. As a ramification, none of my professors could properly teach us the basic concepts. They would expound about them but would just stifle. Apart from that, I must tell about the anti-ragging policies laid by the college authorities which were strictly abided by. Although, I, along with my mates, had a refreshing introductory session with my seniors. With time, with pressure of syllabus and such contracting time, I- as a class representative- organised the official departmental fresher's party, which was a huge success and for which I was appreciated.
Wrapping in a single statement, I would conclude that as I expected, the course twist that my destiny gifted me was not that disappointing. I am glad that I could be a recognised part of my department where I, along with my works, am adulated.
