This collaboration is poised to transform the way management education is delivered, marking a significant step towards positioning India as a global hub for technology-driven business learning.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has entered into a strategic partnership with Breakout Learning Inc., a global leader in AI-driven digital case study solutions. This collaboration is poised to transform the way management education is delivered, marking a significant step towards positioning India as a global hub for technology-driven business learning.
A Vision for AI-Driven Management Education
The primary objective of this partnership is to make India a leader in technology-enhanced management education, aligning with the government's push to invest 500 Crore in AI Centers of Excellence as part of the Union Budget 2025. The collaboration will integrate Breakout Learning’s AI-enabled platform into IIM Sambalpur's MBA, Executive MBA, and Ph.D. programs, setting a new benchmark for digital learning in the country. Students and faculty will have exclusive access to premium case studies from world-renowned institutions such as Harvard and Ivey, thereby raising the quality of education and fostering global academic standards in India.
Co-Creation of Cutting-Edge Management Cases
The partnership also opens new avenues for co-creating innovative management cases. Faculty and students at IIM Sambalpur will work together to develop cases that will be hosted on Breakout Learning's platform. These AI-generated cases will have joint intellectual property rights, giving IIM Sambalpur faculty discounted access to the materials for teaching and research purposes. This initiative not only positions India as a leader in AI-driven business education but also empowers students and faculty with the tools to contribute to the global body of knowledge.
Impact on Teaching Methodologies and Faculty Innovation
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, emphasized that this is a game-changer for Indian management education. He pointed out that traditional teaching methods have long been a barrier to innovation and research in Indian B-schools. By integrating AI-driven case-based learning, IIM Sambalpur aims to prepare future leaders with unparalleled decision-making and analytical skills.
"Indian B-schools have yet to secure spots in the top 200 global rankings. One of the reasons for this is that faculty members often lack the time and resources to focus on research and innovation due to teaching pressures. With AI integration, our faculty will receive substantial support, freeing them to engage in research and case writing, ultimately boosting India's global academic reputation," Prof. Jaiswal stated.
Positioning IIM Sambalpur as a Leader in Innovation
IIM Sambalpur is on 58th position in the list of top 100 Management institutes in India, according to NIRF Ranking. The institute offers a two year residential MBA course admission to which is done through CAT, followed by a personal interview and the final merit list is prepared on the basis of the performance of the candidate in academics, CAT, Personal Interview and work experience, if any.

Further, Prof. Jaiswal added, "This collaboration strengthens IIM Sambalpur's position as an innovation-led education provider, aligning with India's broader vision of becoming a knowledge powerhouse. We aim to prepare management professionals who can compete globally, even with top institutions like Harvard University, especially in case project development."
Breakout Learning’s Transformative Approach
Ramit Varma, CEO and Co-Founder of Breakout Learning, also shared his perspective on the collaboration, stating that traditional classrooms often feel disengaging and factory-like. In contrast, Breakout Learning focuses on small group discussions, which foster creativity, critical thinking, and communication among students. This method aims to engage students more effectively and prepares them for real-world business scenarios.
"IIM Sambalpur is the first institution in India to adopt this transformative approach, and it is now ready to compete with Harvard University," Varma said. He also noted the drawbacks of traditional methods, where students often arrive unprepared, and instructors are well-prepared. Breakout Learning’s AI-driven approach, in contrast, encourages students to think critically, innovate, and engage deeply, offering a more effective and engaging learning experience.
Integration and Support
Breakout Learning will ensure seamless integration of its AI-driven platform into IIM Sambalpur's curriculum, backed by dedicated technical support. The financial terms of the partnership, including access fees and case development royalties, will be structured in a separate agreement to ensure long-term sustainability and mutual benefit for both parties.
Future-Ready Education System
This collaboration between IIM Sambalpur and Breakout Learning Inc. is set to reshape management education in India by combining AI technology with globally competitive learning methods. The integration of AI-driven case studies will enhance the quality of education, offer students invaluable exposure to global business scenarios, and allow them to engage in a deeper, more meaningful learning process.
