NDA offers BA and BSc programme for a three-year duration and BTech programme for four-year duration. However, there is one-year compulsory training programme in respective academies of the Armed Forces after the course duration.
No, studying at NDA is not free. The candidates will have to pay the course fee and the accommodation charges are well. If the candidates find the fee a little high, they can apply online on the official website for the scholarships offered by the college. NDA is the joint training institute for all three services-Army, Navy and Air Force. After joining the NDA cadet undergo training for three years. After graduating from NDA candidates are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training before commissioning. Army cadets are sent to the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), naval cadets to the Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala), and Air Force cadets to the Air Force Academy (Dundigal, Hyderabad).

For Army- Candidate must have passed class12th or equivalent examination by a State Education Board or a University.
For Air Force and Navy- Candidates must have passed 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
A candidate must be an unmarried male and must be:-
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st Jan, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India)
Only unmarried male candidates between the age group of 16½ to 19½ can join the course.
Candidates must be physically and mentally fit according to prescribed physical standards/guidelines given in the Notification.

- Entrance TestEligible candidates need to appear for the NDA & NA Entrance Exam conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
- Service Selection Board (SSB) InterviewShortlisted candidates will be called for 5 day Service Selection Board (SSB) interview process based on the rank obtained in NDA & NA Entrance Exam. SSB process consists of two steps: Step I - Screening Test Screening Test is conducted on the first day of the process and it consists of Officer Intelligent Rating Test (OIR) and Picture Perception and Discussion (PPDT) Test in which candidates are tested for general aptitude, reasoning and intelligence Stage II - Only those candidates who qualify at step-I are admitted to the four days long IInd stage/remaining tests. This stage is broadly divided into further 4 categories: 1) Psychological Testing 2) Personal Interview 3) Ground Tasks Officer (GTO) Testing and 4) Conference Round
- Medical TestingCandidates recommended on the basis of performance in Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview are then required to appear before a Medical Board for about a week long medical testings. Candidates appearing for SSB interview for the first time for a particular type of Commission i.e. Permanent or Short Service, shall be entitled up to AC III Tier to and fro railway fare or bus fare.
- Final SelectionCandidates are selected through merit prepared on the basis of recommendations from SSB and Medical boards.
