Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University was founded in 1973 and upgraded to a Central University. It is recognised by the UGC and accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade. Across 16 streams, 11 schools, 47 departments and two centres, it offers more than 700 UG courses including PG and doctoral courses. It has three campuses, namely Birla campus, Srinagar (extension at Chauras campus), B.Gopal Reddy campus, Pauri and Swami Ram Teerth (SRT) campus, Tehri.

HNBGU Uttarakhand BTech admission criteria is entrance-based. The university prepares a merit list based on applicants' CUET scores. If the seats are left vacant, then merit list students of HNBGU counselling are selected based on JEE Main score. Further, apart from these criteria, aspirants must have the required educational qualifications as well. No, HNBGU Pauri Campus does not conduct any entrance examination for admission into offered courses. Admissions are strictly entrance based with the institute accepting only CUET UG and CUET PG scores for UG and pG programmes, respectively.
