IIT Delhi PhD Highlights 2025
IIT Delhi PhD programme is a doctoral-level course, and it is one of the IIT's courses; thus, getting admission into this course can be slightly challenging. IIT Delhi PhD Admission Dates 2024
IIT Delhi PhD applications are invited twice a year in March and October and subsequently, the admissions are carried out in May and December. The minimum duration for MTech candidates pursuing PhD programme is two years, whereas for BTech candidates it is three years. Also, all the candidates are allowed a maximum of seven years for the submission of their thesis.

Commonly asked questions On Admissions
The total course fee is a cumulative of multiple components such as tuition fee, medical fees, transport fees, etc. IIT Delhi PhD tuition fee for full-time course is INR 7,500 per semester. In addition, PhD (part-time/sponsored) programmes is INR 17,500. The hostel fee for PhD candidates is INR 13,250. Some other fee such as students distress fund scheme (each semester) of INR 400 and insurance scheme (yearly) fee of INR 500 may also be added in the fee. Further, the fee mentioned here is taken from IIT Delhi 2023 prospectus.
IIT Delhi admission is entrance-based for all the programmes (Except for PG Diploma). For the diploma course, selection is done merit-basis. Candidates who have passed Class 12 can apply for the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi undergraduate courses. More details around the admission process of some of the courses are provided below:
- Candidates, who have passed Class 12 from a recognised board with an aggregate of 75% or above, can appear for JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced and JoSAA Counselling to seek BTech admission at IIT Delhi.
- Admission to MTech course is based on merit in GATE exam followed by GOAP counselling.
- For MSc, aspirants need to apply with a valid score of IIT JAM and selected candidates have to further go through CCMN counselling.
IIT Delhi OBC cutoff 2025 for JEE Advanced is yet to be released. However, during the last round cutoff in 2024, the JEE Advanced closing ranks for BTech admission varied between 89 and 3185 in the All India quota. In the first round, the cutoff ranks were more competitive for admission compared to the final round. Therefore, based on last year's cutoff ranks, a JEE Advanced rank of 7000 does not allow for admission at IIT Delhi for any BTech or Integrated BTech courses for students belonging to the OBC AI category.
No, admission to the IIT Delhi courses is entrance-based, except for PG Diploma course. There is no provision for direct admission. However, for IIT Delhi MTech admission, the institute offers direct admission to candidates with an overall CGPA of 8.00 out of 10. Those students are exempted from GATE and are eligible for direct admissions. The below table mentions course-wise accepted entrance exams:

Those who are seeking admission to the courses offered at IIT Delhi, are required to go to the official website of the respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and submit a completed application form in online mode. Also, candidates are required to pay an application fee. The steps to fill IIT Delhi application form are given below:
- Go to the official website of IIT Delhi (www.iitd.ac.in). On its homepage, click on ‘Admissions’. From the drop-down menu that appears, further, click on ‘Announcements’.
- Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button to proceed further.
- The registration page opens up. Click on ‘New User Register Here’. Fill out the registration form with all the details, including name, email ID, contact number, course preference, etc. Also, create an alpha-numeric password for future logins.
- Complete the application form by addressing the needed details
