IMU Chennai BTech is a 4-yr undergraduate (UG) degree course, divided into 8 semesters, & given in full-time mode. This BTech course is given through the School of Marine Engg & Technology. Eligibility requirements for admission to BTech:
Candidates must complete their 12th from the PCM stream with an aggregate of 60%, & a min. of 50% marks in English in Class 10 & 12 (5% relaxation is given to SC/ ST candidates).
Marital status should be unmarried.
Age Limit: For males – General: 25 yrs, OBC (NCL): 28 yrs, SC/ST: 30 yrs; For females – General: 27 yrs, OBC (NCL): 30 yrs, SC/ST: 32 yrs (from the commencement of the academic session).
Medical & Vision Requirements: Students must be medically fit as per the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules. Distance vision (unaided) must be 6/6 in the better eye & 6/9 in the other. Additionally, the applicant must produce a certificate of medical fitness issued by doctors approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.
It is strongly recommended that students who wish to get admission to BTech in Marine Engg must have a passport.
IMU Chennai BTech admission is based on candidates' achieved scores in IMU-CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Tests conducted in CBT mode annually for admission to 6 campuses of the Indian Maritime University (IMU). Further, candidates are required to go through a counselling process conducted by the campus/ university, which will be opened after the release of the IMU-CET rank list. The campus also offers lateral entry to BTech courses. Further, to enrol in the BTech lateral course, candidates must complete a three-year engineering diploma in Marine/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electrical & Electronics with at least an aggregate of 55. OR a four-year diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering with an aggregate of 50%
