JMI Syllabus: MA Mass Communication

For mass communication programmes, candidates must attempt 200 questions within 3 hours. The JMI question paper will include both objective (Multiple-choice questions) and descriptive questions. For MCQs, there is a provision of negative marking. So, candidates must sure to thoroughly go through the answers and then submit. 

The JMI entrance exam paper for mass communication mainly have questions from topics like social issues, ethics & values, brand awareness & recall, social consciousness, lateral thinking capabilities, language skills, analytical & comprehension skills, general awareness about development & public issues and more.

JMI offers admission at various faculties/ centres. The entrance exam for admission in courses offered at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) has two sections - A and B.

Section A includes objective-type questions with questions from following topics.

• National and International Political Issues/ personalities

• General Knowledge

• Film, Television and other modes of Media

• Art, Culture and Literature

Section B consists of descriptive questions. As per JMI official website “This paper comprises of essay type long answers which reflect the candidates' critical understanding of contemporary issues and the media. This paper also evaluates candidates' skills in visualisation, story-telling and their creative aptitude”.

Note: Candidates who qualify the entrance test will be eligible to appear for interview round.

Interview: This round is approximately 10-20 minutes long. Here, a panel from the mass media stream evaluates a candidate's knowledge on following topics.

• Contemporary political, social, cultural and economic issues

• Contemporary media

• Fictional and non-fictional films

• General knowledge and the subjects studied at the graduation level
• Visualisation skills and creative aptitude

• Overall personality (confidence, way of speaking and presenting an answer, etc.)

JMI Entrance Exam Portfolio: When appearing for the interview round, aspirants need to carry their portfolio. The portfolio must have an evidence/ proof of media-related work as well as extra-curricular activities performed by the candidate post-school at the college/ university level.

The official website of AJK Mass Communication Research Centre lists the parameters based on which the portfolio of candidates will be evaluated. Some media-related activities that can be included in the portfolio are mentioned below:

• Production work (audio/ visual media-based)
• Proof of participation in social activities (involvement with NGOs or social organisations)
• Published work (articles, stories, news, etc., published in reputed journals, websites and magazines)
• Internship/ work experience with a reputed media house
• Participation in extra-curricular activities (debating, painting, music, theatre etc.)
• Online work
