KGMU Lucknow offers direct admission to only BSc aspirants. For BSc course, the selection is based on the last qualifying exam of Class 12. King George's Medical University is a goverment university which was established in 1905. The university is accredited with A Grade by NAAC and is approved by UGC, DCI, and MCI. King George's Medical University is a public university which is accredited with A Grade by NAAC. Being a public university. The fee for various courses is not very high. Even if the students find the fee a little high, they can apply for the scholarships offered by the university.

The accepted entrace exams for admission to KGMU are NEET PG, NEET MDS, NEET SS, and others. KGMU accepts admission to most of the Medical courses through a valid score in NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the sole entrance test for admission to the BDS and MBBS programmes in India. Every year, the cut off marks for the KGMU NEET exam are affected due to the following factors:

• The difficulty level of the exam. In case the question paper is easy then the NEET cut offs are expected to go high and vice-versa.
• Total number of applications received. If the total applications received are less then the cut off is expected to be relaxed. 
• Total candidates qualifying NEET exam. If the total number of qualifying candidates is less than the total seats then cut off goes low
• Total number of seats. If the total number of seats is revised and increased then cut off is expected to remain low
• Previous year cut offs. For the top colleges, the cut-off marks in previous years were high, therefore, only topper candidates could make it for final admissions. Fore other colleges, the cut off marks are relatively low.
