Q:   What is the structure of CAT question paper?
    A:

Till 2014, there were only two sections in CAT. Quantitative Aptitude was clubbed with Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning was clubbed with Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. In 2015, the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning were clubbed together and Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension made two individual sections. Since 2015, the sectional segregation has remained the same but the number of questions have come down from 100 to 66. The exam duration has also been reduced. Until 2019, the CAT exam was of 180 minutes and the total number of questions were 100. However, in 2020, the question paper structure was revised due to COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the total number of questions came down to 76. In 2021 and 2022, the number of questions were further lowered to 66. For the last two years, CAT is conducted for 2 hours, and the number of questions is 66. In CAT 2024 however, the number of questions were increased to 68.

The latest CAT question paper structure is: Total questions: 68 Number of sections: 3 Order of sections - 1. VARC 2. DILR 3. Quantitative Aptitude Sectional time limit: 40 minutes VARC questions: 24 DILR questions: 22 Quantitative Aptitude questions: 22.

Friendly faculty, amazing campus with great placement.
Placements: 97% of the students get placed after their course. Top companies like Amadasoft also offer placements to their graduates. There is a minimum of 20 LPA, which can go up to 45 LPA. Jobs are offered both in the design sector and in the software sector. Internships are also offered.
Infrastructure: From the second year on, the students get a double-bed room with no attached bathroom and the mess facility is also included. Great lab for assignments and library for studying. Proper Indian food is provided at the canteen. Basketball and badminton courts are also available for students's physiques.
Faculty: Top-notch faculty with great experience. We get to have one-on-one conversations with faculty members whose mentorship gives us a lot of experience. Semester exams are mostly easy and most of the grades are marked based on assignments and projects. We get to have enough site visits, which makes us ready for real-life experiences.
Other: I love the power to create something and the profession of architecture.

Placements are not up to the mark here.
Placements: Placements and internship opportunities are available for almost all branches and streams present in the college. The internship is usually the summer intern after the 6th semester. Placements start right from the 7th semester and go on till late after the 8th semester also. The salary packages offered are very low.
Infrastructure: It has sports facilities like a swimming pool, badminton court, basketball court, etc. Every hostel, library, and computer center had Wi-Fi. Library houses many books and is well spacious and let. The equipment in the lab is of modern technology. There are 28 hostels in total inside the campus. All hostels are good and equipped with Wi-Fi and common rooms with air-conditioners. The hostels are different in capacity ranging from 3-sharing, 2-sharing, and single-sharing rooms. The allocation depends on the administration.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college are the best here. They are motivating. They help the students in every way possible to nurture themselves. The best part of the college is that it is very flexible in terms of exams and marks as one requires to stress very little to score well. The course curriculum is well-structured. The existing faculty members are very insightful. They have ample knowledge and are experts in their fields.

The college has good facilities but poor faculty.
Placements: Placements are provided for our branch from the last 3 years. We still are prohibited from appearing for CPC (which is a test the placement cell takes so as to assure your placement through college). Roles offered are architect (say core jobs), sales, management etc. One can also sit for software companies if interested. Though there will be many companies coming with non-core profiles, most of them (80-90%) won't recruit students from our branch or will simply chuck us in resume shortlisting (the first step in the placement process). Students have to get internships on their own.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good. Wi-Fi is available 24x7 in hostels. The department has nice classrooms but with outdated projectors and no speakers. Only fans are available. Even in the city, it is one of the hottest places in the state. The classrooms are still fine in terms of comfort in any season. There are nice labs with good internet. A1, A2, A3 and A4 size printers are there. Drinking water facilities are not very well-maintained throughout the year. A dedicated library is available for the architectural department (apart from the central library). The washrooms are fine too, and the cleanliness is good. A model-making studio (though no faculty) is also there.
Faculty: The faculty members are well-educated, but most of them demotivate you (80% percent of them). Many of them won't come to class on time, and some won't take classes at all, throughout the semester. As a result, you'll feel that your time doesn't matter, and you are the least valued student in the college.

As we know it's the top no. 1 NIT in India. So facilities are better then other colleges.
Placements: For architecture there is no proper placement in my college but on average it's 25,000 RS. Per month is there ( in campus placement ). Many seniors got placed above 70,000 per month also but not in architecture field so if you are in architecture department, does't mean that u will get job related to architecture only. For architecture Placement will be around 60% with average 25,000 per month.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of the college you can say good but if you ignore water problem. Water is the biggest problem in Trichy city so water is not good. As I am studying in the college so I am known will the facilities. Wi-Fi is good in every hostel sports facilities is also very good, some classrooms are having AC but some don't have. Hostels are good but far away from the departments quality of food is average for seniors but for 1st years it's not good and outside canteens are not much available in campus, night canteens are there but not for afternoon. For Afternoon lunch there is no proper canteen with good food. For us only water problem is the issue and my hostel is around 1.7 km. Far from the department of architecture.
Faculty: For architecture there is no enough no. Of permanent professors. Some professors are very good ( those who are very old), some are just for completing the course. We are having flexible curriculum here where students and teachers both can decide the course structure, like how they want to make exams and how they want to divide marks for the subjects. We are having relative marking with the minimum passing marks of 45. For teaching here teachers uses projectors and slideshows. They don't prefer chalk board method.
Other: Lot's of events are there. Like for odd semester (1,3,5,7,9 semester) there will be festember, our cultural festival. There will be aavege for 1st years freshers event, every department will have there symposium. For even semesters (2,4,6,8,10 semesters) there will be pragyaan, our technical festival and nittfest our inter department festival. Scholarships are there, you will get information in scholarships sections in college, so many clubs are there which student can join.

My honest review and experience at NITT.
Placements: The architecture students majorly don't prefer placements. A few take good deals from non-core companies. The other B.Tech category gets significant placement offers. The packages are good enough. The internship facilities are terrific. NIT brand helps in getting companies.
Infrastructure: The academic buildings are architectural marvels, whereas hostel buildings have nothing great to talk about. The campus is enormously vast in the area with good vegetation and breathing space. There are 4 ATMs, a number of food places, 24/7 CCD. NIT Trichy is blissful.
Faculty: I feel faculty and curriculum standards can be improved. At least I can vouch for my department which is really in a bad state. Other departments are closely in the same condition. The curriculum is sad, and 75% attendance is saddening.

I had a lovely time in the college. Good infrastructure, ecosystem, people, etc.
Placements: The placements were mediocre for the architecture branch, but it improved this year with more companies coming forward. Even the companies which are not entirely related to the branch gave us the opportunities. Junior architect in LnT, a graphic designer in magazines, architect for civil companies like Nadel enterprises are some of the posts we were offered.
Infrastructure: The eco-friendly environment, focused on high roofs to keep the room cooler and windows for lighting. A central courtyard with vegetation. The computer lab is of good quality with air conditioning. We were given the opportunities to brighten our department with our art and architecture ideas. We painted the walls of our corridors, pillars, and had suspended vegetation installed. With the department expansion, an elevator has been installed.
Faculty: There are knowledgeable faculty members who provided ample opportunities for us to learn. Had regular reviews with outside guests to further build our confidence to speak with unfamiliar people. Along with our reviews, we have the separate lecture classes with slide shows. We even went on a case study in other places to survey the conditions people are facing there in their everyday lives and prepared a report on it for external judges.

NIT Trichy students can apply for the internships help in May-July. These internships are usually for 4 weeks (minimum), 8 weeks (maximum). These are the summer internships. Last date to apply for these internships is usually in March.

NIT Trichy stands above many newly formed IITs. All the newly established IITs are still growing & also need improvement to stand at par with an NIT established in 1964. IITs such as IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are still leading the race, and the gap between these IITs and NIT Trichy is huge.
