No, NIT Trichy does not provide direct admission for BTech. NIT Trichy BTech admission is entrance-based. The institute accepts admission to the BTech course through a valid score of JEE Main. Every aspirant needs to qualify for the exam in order to get admission. Selected candidates further need to take part in JoSAA counselling as well. There is no other procedure for admission.
NIT Trichy cut-off list 2024 has been released, up to Round 7 Counselling for M.Tech courses offered through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Centralized Counselling for M. Tech. / M. Arch./ M. Plan (GATE CCMT). As of now, there are no more rounds scheduled for release by the institute.
NIT Trichy students should make sure they meet the eligibility criteria set by the institute before applying for the desired course. As the institute offers several courses at UG, PG and PhD level, students need to register on the specific website of each entrance exam. Students will have to register themselves, fill out the application form and pay the application fee of the entrance exams such as GATE, JEE Main and CAT. NIT Trichy students can apply for the internships help in May-July. These internships are usually for 4 weeks (minimum), 8 weeks (maximum). These are the summer internships. Last date to apply for these internships is usually in March.

NIT Trichy stands above many newly formed IITs. All the newly established IITs are still growing & also need improvement to stand at par with an NIT established in 1964. IITs such as IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are still leading the race, and the gap between these IITs and NIT Trichy is huge.

NIT Trichy is good in terms of placements. PG placement rate recorded in 2025 was 85.1%. In 2024 and 2023, the placement percentage was 89.4% and 95.3%.
