On Highlights
Q:   Why choose Thapar University?
A:
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is a "deemed to be university" in Patiala, Punjab. It is ranked 46 in the Management and 29 in the Engineering categories by the NIRF 2025. The admissions are both merit and entrance-based varying from course to course. For course like BTech, JEE Mains score is valid & for MBA scores of exams like CAT, NMAT, XAT, CMAT, etc. are accepted. During the placements 2025, the highest package of INR 40.90 LPA & median package of INR 8.5 LPA were offered to the students BTech (ME) batch. Overall it is a good university in terms of palcements, rankings, faculty, etc.

Q:   How much JEE Mains marks are required for admission in thapar university?
A:

There's no fixed “marks” cutoff for Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology — it works on percentile/rank, and it changes every year.

Rough idea based on trends:

  • CSE / COE → ~95–97+ percentile
  • ENC / ECE → ~90–95 percentile
  • Mechanical / Electrical → ~85–92 percentile
  • Civil / Chemical / Biotech → ~70–85 percentile

Marks vary each paper, so focus on percentile. Also, Thapar has a board marks quota, so strong 12th % can help.

You don't need a perfect score — mid 80s–90s percentile can still get you in.

Q:   Can I apply offline for admission in Thapar University?
A:

No, students cannot apply offline for Thapar University. TIET applications process is conducted strictly in the online mode. Students must register through the official website of the university. Fill the application form and submit the application fees.

Q:   What is the fee structure of Thapar University? How's their faculty of B.Tech?
A:

Honestly, Thapar is a good private engineering college, but it does come at a cost.

For B.Tech, the total expense for 4 years (including tuition + hostel) usually goes around ₹28–35 lakhs, depending on your branch and accommodation. It's on the higher side compared to many colleges, so budgeting is important.

As for faculty, most professors are qualified (many with PhDs), and academics are taken seriously. Teaching quality is generally considered good, especially in core branches like CSE, ECE, and Mechanical. Like any big university, experiences can vary by department and individual professor.

If fees aren't a major constraint and you get a good branch, Thapar is considered a solid option.
